Making music and all that jazz!

According to Sandeep Chowta, legends need to be watched from a distance. "But it's a surreal experience to watch them perform on your soil," he says.

Making music and all that jazz!

And the musician is more than happy to bring down world renowned jazz guitar player John Abercrombie accompanied by Adam Nussbaum on drums and Gary Versace on Hammond B3 Organ. CS caught up with Sandeep to speak about music’s global reach and his future projects.

Jazz it up!
I think Mumbai’s audience loves Jazz. We’re definitely trying to move to other cities because of the constant requests to bring the music there. I know I could always go and watch these great players in their own countries, but these are dreams that we had 15-20 years back when we used to listen to these artists on cassettes and vinyl. There’s no better feeling than watching them on your own turf with your friends and musician friends from your fraternity.

Going independent
I enjoy doing independent projects. But I think the sabbatical from doing films and now getting back to doing films with a new perspective, means one is feeding the other, and that’s always good. My ability to strike balance is because of these independent music projects pulling me back and forth.

No boundaries to music
I have one of the greatest guitar players tucked away in a secret studio, working on a secret project with me. I’m his biggest fan. His name is Scott Henderson. And we’re collaborating on a fusion project. Scott heard Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on my soon-to-be-released album, and was raving about him the whole time.u00a0
