Maratha Morcha in Mumbai: 450 SoBo schools to remain shut today

When the Marathas' silent march passes through Mumbai today, south Mumbai's schools will remain quiet as well. Students of SoBo schools have been given the day off, so they are not inconvenienced by the traffic congestion expected due to the Maratha Kranti Morcha.

More than 5 lakh protestors and over 10,000 vehicles are anticipated to enter the city to participate in the protest march. "The city is expected to face severe traffic congestion as the Maratha Kranti Morcha is scheduled on August 9. This may inconvenience students from south Mumbai, so it has been decided to keep schools closed in Sion, Dadar, Worli, Byculla and Colaba. Schools will have to compensate for the lost time in the subsequent days, in order to avoid any academic loss," reads the statement issued by Vinod Tawde, state education minister. The deputy director of Education (Mumbai) also issued a circular in this regard, which will be applicable to around 450 schools.
