Mother held for forcing teenager into flesh trade

A 45-year-old woman was apprehended on Sunday evening for pushing her daughter into flesh trade. Six others have also been arrested. Sources say the mother had once tried to force the 18-year-old to sleep with a Saudi Arabia-based NRI, and when she refused, the accused had locked her inside a room for over a month. The daughter is not the only victim; cops rescued other girls residing in the same flat, who where working in the sex racket at the behest of the woman.

According to the Sewri police, on the basis of a complaint filed by the accused’s daughter, with the help of an NGO and some local residents, they have arrested seven people from Mira Road. Around two weeks ago, the teenager accompanied her mother to Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan, from where she escaped. She visited her relatives in Sewri and narrated her plight. Meanwhile, the mother came to know that the teen was hiding in Sewri, and so she approached the relatives with some of her agents to get the girl back. However, an NGO and the local police intervened, after which the accused was arrested.
