A suicide attempt at Bandra-Worli Sea Link was foiled in the early hours of Wednesday. After CCTV cameras captured a man standing on the bridge’s parapet, holding the railings, around 3.10 am, the sea link staff was successful, after around half an hour, in cajoling the man into not taking his life.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, one of the sea link staffers constantly kept talking to him about the pointlessness of committing suicide, his co-workers and the police stood a little distance away, waiting for an opportunity to rescue him.
At around 3.45 am, the supervisor Chetan Kadam was successful in catching hold of the man, who has been identified as Bhayandar resident Pradeep Yadav (27). He later informed the cops he was forced to take the step owing to family problems. Yadav boarded a taxi from Bhayandar, and told the taxi driver to stop at sea link.
"Our staff are somewhat skilled in handling such situations. Apart from the CCTV cameras, we now have a technology wherein an alarm goes off whenever someone crosses the safety barrier on the sea link,” MEPL owner, Jayant Mhaiskar was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.
Yadav was sent home after his father was informed of the incident by Worli cops. “The man said he had domestic problems. Inspector Virag Parkar supervised the rescue operation with the sea link staff. We called his father and counselled the man, after which they were sent home,” Inspector Maruti Sawant from Worli Police Station told Mumbai Mirror.
