Mumbai crime: Cops arrest man for pushing woman off the terrace

Yesterday, the Charkop police arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly throwing a 20-year-old woman from the 15th floor of Triveni apartment, a high-rise. Earlier, the cops had registered an accidental death report, assuming the victim had committed suicide after her body was found in the building compound at around 6.30 pm on May 24. The CCTV footage of the society has revealed that the accused took the woman to the terrace and even assaulted her. However, the cops are yet to determine whether he pushed her off the terrace. The deceased woman, Semmi Prasad, who lived on the 15th floor, and accused Kanaiya Singh, who lived on the fifth floor of the same building, worked at a call centre.

According to the CCTV footage, Singh assaulted Semmi in his car in the parking lot after which he took her inside the building lobby. The cops booked Singh for murder and arrested him yesterday.

On the other hand, Semmi’s father S Prasad has accused another man of committing the murder. Zone 11 DCP Desmane said, "We have arrested the accused Singh with the help of CCTV footage. However, we are not sure whether Singh pushed her off the terrace. Investigations are underway."
