In what appears to a classic case of avoiding severe consequences for wrong-doing, a man accused of murder surrendered before Jhinjhana police in Western Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district because he feared that the cops would kill him in a staged encounter.

The surrendered accused, who walked up to the police station with folded hands, also promised that he would not commit any crime. The surrendered accused said, 'I had been absconding after committing the crime but now I have come to surrender. I fear that I would killed in an encounter. I won't commit any crime now.'

Reportedly, more than a dozen alleged criminals have given written submissions to the Shamli police that they would never indulge in any lawbreaking activities in future.
