Navi Mumbai: Woman, lover held for husband's murder
A woman, her boyfriend and an accomplice were arrested by Nerul Police for their apparent involvement in her husband's murder. Cops say she was tired of spouse's assault, desired to elope with paramour
A woman was arrested by Nerul police for been involved in the murder of her own husband. The cops alleged that the wife Sangeeta Patil was tired of husband's assault and desired to elope with her boyfriend. She had given a contract to him and his friends to kill her spouse Swapnil.
Nerul police have also arrested her boyfriend Salman Shaikh (21) and an accomplice Shahid Sutar under the case of murder, while another accused identified as Malya is absconding. An officer from Nerul police station said, "On December 1, we found a dead body near Ramleela Maidan in Nerul. The face was smashed with a stone. Luckily we found the visiting card of the deceased's uncle in his pocket, which led to the body being identified on the spot."
However during the course of investigations it was revealed that the wife of the deceased had been in an illicit relationship with Shaikh.
“Shaikh was an acquaintance of the deceased, due to which he was a frequent visitor to Patil's residence and became friends with her as well. Eventually, Patil began dating Shaikh and they have been in a relationship since the last two years. Swapnil became suspicous of their apparent closeness and started assaulting his wife regularly under the influence of alcohol,” added the officer.
Following which in the last week of November, the three accused along with the wife Patil hatched a plan to kill Swapnil. "So on December 1, the three accused, who are originally from Satara came to Navi Mumbai and gave Swapnil alcohol to drink. Later after Swapnil lost his consciousness, they killed him by smashing his head," said an officer.
Patil confessed the crime and revealed the facts when she was summoned to the police station for inquiry. The three accused have been booked under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and remanded to police custody.
