New Delhi: For couples who desire an “exotic” honeymoon, the Indian Railways is planning to launch a one-of-its-kind offer, that too in the cool climes of Shimla. Honeymooning couples can soon book one entire bogie of the Kalka-Shimla Toy Train for R35,000. The amount includes food and other luxuries on board, and you can work out any other extras with the Northern Railways.

Tariff could also be worked out according to accommodation capacity, like for more than just one couple. The coaches have been christened Rail Motor Car, Shivalik Palace and Jharokha. “While the Rail Car would be exclusive honeymoon coaches, others would be available for a group of people ranging from four to a maximum of 12 in one coach and price will go from R18,000 to R35,000. The new scheme and packages will be part of the initiative of the heritage week,” said a railway official. Presently, World Heritage Fortnight is being celebrated to commemorate World Heritage Day and Shimla station has been illuminated with blue bulbs.

Senior Northern Railway officials last week inspected the Kalka-Shimla line and made an appeal to the tourists and local residents to not litter at railway stations.

The Shimla Toy Train has been a tourist attraction for years and several films have been shot on it. The UNESCO heritage Kalka-Shimla Railway is a two-feet-and-six-inches narrow gauge train, travelling along a mostly mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for its dramatic views.
