Mumbai: A patient's husband committed suicide from ward no 20 of Sion Hospital after a fight Thursday.

Shellar Nirrutti Malve (40) jumped from the second floor of Sion Hospital. He was brought to casualty and later sent to E ward after being declared dead. He resides in Pune.

His wife, Minakshi Malve, is admitted in ward no 19 as she was undergoing treatment for Tuberculosis meningitis.

Shellar’s body was kept at Sion Trauma ward after he committed suicide at around 3 pm.

Dr Avinash Supe, Dean of Sion Hospital said, “The reason for committing suicide was some family issue. He had come to meet his wife in the hospital and jumped from a small window near the grills, where patient’s relatives generally sit. The cause of death was multiple injuries. He was already dead by the time brought to the casualty and the body was later taken for postmortem.”

Sources said that there was lack of security in the hospital. The postmortem was conducted Friday morning, confirmed Dr Rajesh Dere, Forensics head of Sion Hospital.

An officer from Sion police station said, “Malve was fed up with his wife’s medical condition as she was not getting better. Earlier, he got her examined at several hospitals as well before admitting her at Sion Hospital.”
