Borussia Dortmund star Jakub Blaszczykowski is still haunted by the horror of watching his father brutally murdering his mother.

Kuba, who was just ten-years old, witnessed dad Zygmunt stab Anna, his mother, to death.

"I will never understand why it happened. I''ll always ask myself ''Why?''.

Until the end of my lifetime, I will have to live with this," The Sun quoted Kuba, as saying.

The star skipper was so traumatised by the knifing, that he was unable to get out of bed for five days. He was then raised by his grandmother and uncle in the little village of Truskolasy.

"Earlier in my life, it was something I never wanted to mention. I tried to forget it, but I couldn''t. But now, I am mature enough to speak about it," the Polish footballer revealed.

Kuba, a devout Roman Catholic, said that he reads the Bible every day and dedicates every goal he scores to his tragic mother, believing she is looking over him from heaven.

"My mother is looking after me. I have had some difficulties in my life, but I have overcome all of them, and, I feel it is because she is somewhere and helps me," he added.

His dad, Zygmunt spent 15 years in prison for his crime before being released in 2011.

Kuba never spoke to his father again, but did attend his funeral after he died at the age of 56 last month.u00a0
