Pune based banker gives his heart to Vadodara based businessman

Without any traffic chaos no special usage of Green Corridor Heart transplant journey of around 220 kilometers from Pune to Mumbai, on Friday was carried in span of 59 minutes. The heart of Pune based 45-year-old bank employee who died in a road accidenthis was retrieved on the wee hours of Thursday and later brought to Mumbai via chopper. It was later transferred into 53-year old Vadodara based businessman.

On July 31, 45-year-old South Indian bank employee from Pune met with a road accident and was rushed to Pune's Ruby Hall clinic but succumbed to death due to major head injuries. For five days the doctors were waiting for the consent of his wife and finally on Wednesday night she gave consent.


In another medical case, a businessman from Vadodara 53-year-old man suffering from heart ailment and undergoing a treatment at Mumbai based Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital was on waiting list of heart last three months.

Ruby Hall Clinic doctor said, "We had a patient from Pune who had died in road accident five days we were waiting for his wife to give us the consent of transplant. Finally on Wednesday evening we got confirmation and accordingly we informed the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC). The heart was sent to Mumbai based hospital as per ZTCC while liver was transplanted in another patient 52-year-old farmer from Pune who was undergoing a treatment in our hospital."

Ram Narain, CEO of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital said, "Soon after the consent was given by deceased wife, our team of doctors rushed to Pune and reached around 1 am in Pune at Ruby hall and the process of heart was retrieved successfully carried by our team of doctors by 6.15 am and it was wee hours there is no traffic issue such was rushed to Pune International Airport where a chopper was organised and within 59 minutes the heart was transplant to our patient. Our patient was suffering from Dilate cardiomyopathy."

He added, "The surgery was successful carried by team of doctors and now the patient has been kept in our hospital under Intensive Care Unit (ICU)."

Dr Kapil Zirpe of Ruby Hall Clinic said, "On Wednesday our accidental patient was declared brain death and for us it was a  challenge s for five days we had to monitor the patients on regular bases so that his organ should be preserved and such infection must not take place. It was a challenge for us."
