Raped minor changes statement, says crime occurred in Wagholi

Investigations have revealed that the 14-year-old orphan who ran away from an observation centre in Shirur was not raped in an open space in Chandannagar as claimed by her but in a lodge in Wagholi.

The girl claims she was raped by an unknown person.u00a0“We have interrogated the girl, and though initially she informed us that she was raped by a stranger in an open space at Khandavenagar in Chandannagar, later she revealed she was raped in a lodge in Wagholi,” Senior Police Inspector Prakash Shaha of the Airport police station said. “This happened after we asked her to show the spot in Chandannagar where she was raped. As she was unable to show us the spot, we urged her to open up and she said she was raped in a lodge in Wagholi.”

The place where the rape occurred falls in the jurisdiction of the Haveli police station. Shaha said the girl used to live in Mahila Sevagram on Karve Road before she was recently shifted to an observation centre in Shirur. “On June 13, she ran away from the observation centre in Shirur and came to Pune with a person, who raped her,” he said. “After coming to Pune, they checked into a lodge and stayed there the whole night, and on June 14 morning the suspect left the lodge. After some time, the girl also left.”

The police said after leaving the lodge, the girl moved about the city for the whole day. They said on the morning of June 15 reached the Mahila Sevagram on Karve Road and the superintendent of the centre came to know about the matter after she found blood stains on the girl’s clothing.

“We spoke to the manager of the lodge and he confirmed the girl had checked in with a youth on June 13,” Shaha said.
The police suspect the girl was acquainted with the youth and might not be giving complete information about him.u00a0
