Sanjay Nande admits to owning building
Investigations in to the building collapse at Taljai Pathar on September 24 have revealed that ex-Congress corporator Sanjay Nande owned the building, said cops. Cops are, however, are still looking out for another accused Lahu Sawant, who has been absconding since the tragedy took place.
“During our investigation, Nande confessed that he owned the building and now we are building a tight case against him. Documents related to the property have been recovered from the accused,” said Kamlakar Takawale, senior inspector at Sahakarnagar police station.
During the course of investigations, cops said that the injured workers had told them that Nande would frequent the construction site and used to instruct the workers, even telling them to expedite the construction at the earliest.
To present a watertight case against Nande, the police are collecting all relevant documents. “We have been told that Nande had made payments to the contractor for the completed work. We are in the process of getting Nande’s bank statements, as he paid the contractor through a cheque too,” said a police officer, on condition of anonymity.
“We have found that Sawant only owns 450 sq-ft land at survey no. 7/1/1/1/2 in Saiduttnagar area near Taljai Pathar in Dhankawadi. However, Nande grabbed the adjacent land and started construction of the building,” added the police officer.
A police team has been formed to nab Sawant.
