A hacker was sentenced to one year in prison after he admitted to hacking singer-actress Selena Gomez's social networking account

Last year, hacker Gareth Crosskey infiltrated Gomez's account and posted derogatory remarks about her boyfriend Justin Bieber. Crosskey also said he had emails which contains the private conversation of the couple.

Further he posted a video online showing how he had hacked the page, boasted about it to fellow hackers online and contacted magazines offering to send them information about Gomez, reported a website.

Claiming this whole exercise was done to address the website administrators about the loopholes in their security as his own account was hacked, he admitted that "his actions were stupid," as said by defendant Gareth Morgan.

He was found guilty under the Computer Misuse Act on two counts and sentenced by Judge John Price at London's Southwark Crown Court. "You are clever with a computer and you hacked into the private part of somebody's personal account.

They have permission to get into part of the account and you hacked into private part by getting the email password. People deserve privacy and should not have their private correspondence made public," remarked John Price.
