Seven killed in Mumbai-Pune Expressway accident

Seven people including four women of a family were killed when a speeding SUV rammed into a dumper truck on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Rasaini in Khalapur on Monday

Seven killed in Mumbai-Pune Expressway accident

Seven people including four women of a family were killed when a speeding SUV rammed into a dumper truck on Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Rasaini in Khalapur on Monday. Two people were injured in the incident.


According to the police, the driver of the SUV lost control after a tyre burst and the car crashed into the divider first and then rammed into a dumper coming from the opposite side.



The police have identified the deceased as Dharmaraj Dhode (45), his wife Sunita (40) son Vedant (10), daughter Ashwini (15), Shubham Pawar (7), Sakhubai Pawar (40) and Chitra Dhode (40). The victims had gone to Satara for Ganapati celebrations and were returning to Mumbai.

The two injuired persons have been identified as Pratik Dhode (15) and Puja Dhode (16), they are currently undergoing treatment at MGM hospital in Kamote. A case of accidental death has been registered by Khalapur police station.

According to a police official, "The Dhode family had come to Satara on Sunday for the Ganpati celebration and were returning back to Mumbai on Monday when the accident took place."
