Barcelona: Singer Shakira has given birth to her second son with footballer boyfriend Gerard Pique.

The 37-year-old pop star welcomed her second son into the world at a hospital in Barcelona Thursday night, where she underwent a scheduled caesarean section, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Their son is called Sasha, the player's proud grandfather has confirmed, according to Hello! magazine. "He's called Sasha which is Alexander in Russian," said Amador. "They've told me he looks like Gerard.

The news was confirmed in a statement from the couple shortly before midnight, with another expected later Friday, to reveal the baby's name.

The "Waka waka" hitmaker and her 27-year-old beau reserved an entire floor of the Hospital Quirón Teknon in the Spanish city for the birth.

The baby was delivered by the same doctor and at the same location as their first son Milan, who turned two on January 22.

The name of the baby was not immediately known, but a Spanish radio DJ and friend of Pique announced earlier this week that it could be Andrea o Sacha.

Last week, Shakira and Pique invited fans to contribute to their on-line World Baby Shower to benefit UNICEF's programmes for children.

Shakira had once said that she wanted eight to nine children. "I would love to have eight or nine kids with Gerard--my own soccer team," Shakira had said at that time.
