The girl's family, who knew and trusted the 30-year-old accused, had sent her to him to get a dress stitched; he thrust his hand inside her shirt for which he has been arrested

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly molested by her family tailor at his shop in Vikhroli while he was taking her measurements to stitch a dress, said the police. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, when the teenager went to the tailor shop of the accused, Ashraf Mohommad Siddique (30), at Kannamwar Nagar 1. He was arrested later the same day.

An officer from Vikhroli police station said, “The 13-year-old is a Std VI student. She had gone to the accused with a dress piece. Siddique told her that he needed to take her measurements, and she didn’t hesitate because he was known very well to her and her family.”

But Siddique started touching her inappropriately, and the youngster didn’t respond as she was confused whether it was intentional or not, cops said. The officer said, “Since she didn’t respond to his misbehavior, he thrust his hand inside her shirt, leaving her aghast at his behaviour. She just slapped him and left the shop.” The 13-year-old went home and informed her parents about the incident, following which they reported him to the Vikhroli police station. The police dispatched a team to Siddique’s shop and arrested him.

“The family of the young girl trusted the accused completely. They’d go to him for all their clothes and tailoring work,” the cop said. The accused has been booked under section 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. Siddique was produced in Vikhroli court on Thursday and has been remanded in police custody for 14 days.
