“Maine sab gharwalo ko khatam kiya hai. Main tumhe bhi nahin chhodunga.” This was the chilling statement 35-year-old Hasnain Warekar made as he charged to slit his youngest sister, Sobiya Bharmal’s throat.

Two days after her parents, sisters and her own five-month daughter were slaughtered by her brother, Sobiya finally narrated the horrific events of Saturday night to the police. Based on her two-page statement, the police have booked the deceased Hasnain on charges of murdering 14 of his family members.
In her account, Sobiya told the cops that they had all gone to the family house in Kasarvadavali for a daawat on Saturday night. Hasnain lived there with their parents and one of the sisters. Around 1 am, they went to bed in three different rooms. Sobiya and her sister Maria were sleeping on the ground floor in a bedroom adjoining the hall, where her father Anwar, mother Asgari, sisters Batul and Shabina and their kids were sleeping. Sobiya had left her baby in the bedroom upstairs, with Hasnain, his wife Jabin and their two daughters.
Hasnain slits Maria’s throat and then turns to Sobiya, telling her he will kill her like everyone else
She said it was around 3 am that she woke up when the bedroom door creaked. “When I woke up, the lights in the hall were on and in that light I saw Hasnain slitting Maria’s throat as she slept next to me. I yelled at him and pushed him out of the bedroom, and that’s when I saw the dead bodies of my father, mother and the kids in a pool of blood in the hall,” recalled Sobiya.

Hasnain then charged at Sobiya with the same knife he would use for animal sacrifices, screaming he would kill her like everyone else. He tried to slit her throat, but Sobia pushed him off and locked herself into the bedroom. But she had suffered serious injuries on her neck and stomach.
She is taken to hospital with a gash on her neck and other injuries on her abdomen, face and hands
“I closed the bedroom and ran towards the window and started screaming for help. When my neighbours were alerted, they managed to pull me out. They took me to Titan Hospital in an auto rickshaw, where I am undergoing treatment,” she added.
When the police questioned her about what motive Hasnain may have had to murder his own family members, she said, “I don’t know why he did it, but I was shocked to see that he brutally killed all family members and I am the only witness.” The statement was taken by the Kasavadavali police in Thane, who have formed a separate team to investigate the case.
