Dilip Vengsarkar walked down memory lane while strolling at his club's rain-soaked, muddy ground.

"We learnt to play positive and aggressive cricket here. Our seniors like Vasu Paranjape and Vithal Patil instilled in us the importance of taking pride in our performance and how to win matches," he said.

Vengsarkar is a pure Dadar Union product.

"I used to live in First Lane, Hindu Colony, about five minutes from here, and as a child, I have seen matches at this ground.

To see Test cricketers from such a close distance was great motivation for us.

It never ever crossed my mind that I should play for another club," he said, reminiscing about the start of his love-affair.

The batting great blamed lack of loyalty for the club's relegation.

"It's unfortunate that this team has gone down. I never ever imagined Dadar Union in the 'C' division. There's no loyalty.

"I played for only one club (Dadar Union), one office team (Tata Sports Club) and only Mumbai. Instead of fighting it out and get the club back to the premier division, players desert their team in their intention to play in the 'A' division,"

Vengsarkar stressed. It is to be seen whether things change in Mumbai though.
