In a country where craze for Bollywood often reaches insane limits, celeb lives form a major part of living room conversations. While a few stars do not have any qualms opening up on their romances, most others ferociously guard their personal space — although the paparazzi allows them little privacy.

Her name’s Rani... Rani Chopra
At the unveiling of Yash Chopra’s statue in 2013, veteran star Shatrughan Sinha aka Shotgun shot his mouth off carelessly as he addressed Rani Mukerji as Rani Chopra. The actress was then said to be dating YRF boss Aditya Chopra and there were rumours that the duo had secretly wed in 2012. Sinha refused to take back his words which had caused much embarrassment to Rani. As we know, she officially became Mrs Rani Chopra in April last year.
In another instance in 2011, Ranveer Singh had committed a faux pas by referring to Rani Mukerji as ‘MD’ of YRF on a chat show without taking her name. Host Karan Johar asked Anushka Sharma if she thought she could act better than all other actresses and she said, ‘Yes, barring one.’ Before she could name the person, Ranveer blurted out, ‘MD?’ We would have thought he meant Madhuri Dixit only if KJo didn’t say, ‘Oh, let’s not go down that path.’

That Ranbir Kapoor has been dating Katrina Kaif for the last few years is an open secret. But when Kareena Kapoor (inset) appeared with Ranbir on a chat show, she chose to confirm the rumoured couple’s relationship status with a mischievous remark: “I have got my lehenga ready for your wedding, and I have been rehearsing the steps to Sheila ki jawaani and Chikni chameli (songs picturised on Kat).”
Not me, baby!
The controversial AIB Knockout, which was slammed by the moral brigade for its unabashed humour, laid several speculations to rest. The stand-up comics made many references to Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s relationship. Towards the end of the show, the actor responded to Arjun’s joke — about being in a position to sleep with anyone they wanted to as stars — by looking at Dippy and saying, “Not me, baby, not me.” The actress then blew him a kiss. Arjun added fuel to fire when he called her ‘bhabhi’.
Nod of acceptance
There was a confirmation of sorts by Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha about their much-speculated romance at the AIB Knockout. As one of the comics, Abish Matthew, congratulated the young actor for dating Sona, he nodded, although a tad reluctantly.
Putting a ring on it
Last year, Varun Dhawan made news for his proximity to Lisa Haydon. But when the actress was quizzed about it in an interview, she denied the buzz saying Varun was already engaged. This declaration sent the gossip mills buzzing and Lisa took to social media to clear the air. She wrote: “I Am Single! Varun Dhawan is NOT engaged. Enough misinterpreting. Over. Please?”
Pun at Bhajji’s expense
Shah Rukh Khan, who is known for his hilarious acts while hosting stage shows, blowed the lid off cricketer Harbhajan Singh’s relationship with actress Geeta Basra during a show in 2010. SRK left the spinner blushing when he asked him: “Bhajji apka ghar kab ‘basra’ hain?” This was followed by another googly: “Geeta ki kasam kha kar kaho...”
Stumped!
Shah Rukh did not spare cricketer Virat Kohli at the IPL 7 opening ceremony last year. The actor staged a mock ‘swayamvar’ for the Team India vice-captain, who plays for the Bangalore franchise in the cash-rich cricket league. He was asked to select his potential bride and of all the choices, he chose Anushka Sharma, whom he was rumoured to be dating then. SRK also made him wear the actress’ photo around his neck. Needless to say, Virat turned red in the face.
The couple recently declared that they were indeed in a relationship.
