Indian women are known for their jewelry adornment and no festival is complete with a little show off of those big stones locked away in a locker.

Diwali to Eid: Festive Jewelry Journey with Glamsutra's Founder

With several festivals in the Indian calendar year, the celebratory times call for an excellent opportunity to delve into the world of fashionable jewelry.

Diwali is a special festival, the festival of lights is an occasion to celebrate, and what better way to celebrate than to buy gold jewelry? On the auspicious event of Dhanteras and Laxmi pujan, families make festival purchases. While everything made of gold is an all-time favorite, dazzling diamonds and gemstone earrings are outstanding.

We interacted with Rasika Tomar, Founder at Glamsutra - a luxury jewelry brand that brings a curated collection of high-end jewelry with unique designs and styles, “Every part of our country has its talented artisans who create unique, intricate jewelry pieces. From the elaborate temple jewelry of the South to the complex filigree of the North, India and its artisans have been gracing Indian women since the Indus Valley civilization.”

Navratri, Karwa Chauth, and Dussehra, women, and men alike adorn themselves with mesmerizing Kundan jewelry, pearl jewelry, and striking Meenakari jewelry. You can find such pieces on Glamsutra’s website.

In the South, a Kasumala is a traditional gold necklace made up of various gold coins strung together and is often worn during the festivals of Onam, and Pongal. However, more and more people are indulging in modern designs of Kundan and Polki jewelry.

She further added, “In Gujarat, and Rajasthan which are the bedrock of most of the jewelry artwork in India, silver jewelry is a popular choice. But the traditional artwork such as the Kundan, Meenakari, and Thewa are still sought after.”

In the recently concluded festival of Durga Puja, Bengali women visit their hometowns wearing the traditional Shankha Pola and Loha bangles and seek the blessings of Maa Durga.

The North Eastern states have delicate jewelry, while the Manipuri traditional jewelry known as Kiyang-Likphang is in high demand. It is made of gold, silver, and brass. Muthu is a traditional Assamese pearl necklace, which is often worn by women during festivals.

The occasion of Eid calls for the adornment of exquisite jewelry. The city of Hyderabad, known for its Nizami culture is renowned for its pearls, jhoomar passa, and crescent-shaped earrings - the chand balis.

The State of Jammu and Kashmir is celebrated for its embroidery work and the same is showcased in jewelry known as Tilla work. Its intricate designs and patterns are particularly sought during Eid.

The beauty of Indian women is accentuated through their jewelry be it Diwali or Eid.
