Mumbai’s Krisha Tamhant Jain wins the National Under-11 Girls Chess title at Jalgaon, showcasing India’s rising young chess stars.

Displaying fine skill and composure, Mumbai’s Krisha Tamhant Jain clinched the Under-11 Girls title at the 38th National Chess Championship. WCM Divi Bijesh of Kerala secured second place, while Pooja Shree R from Tamil Nadu finished third. The event, organised by the All India Chess Federation, concluded at Jain Hills, Jalgaon, drawing some of the country’s most promising young players.
In the Under-11 Open category, Aarit Kapil took top honours, followed by Oishik Mondal of West Bengal in second place and Advik Amit Agrawal of Maharashtra in third.
Representing Maharashtra, Krisha turned in a consistent and confident performance across the tournament, overcoming strong opposition in crucial rounds. Her victory not only brings glory to the state but also earns her the honour of being able to represent India at the upcoming international tournaments.
The event, supported by the Jain Irrigation Foundation, saw Krisha receiving a trophy, certificate, and a cash prize as recognition for her outstanding feat.
Krisha credits her success to hours of dedicated training, experience gained from tournaments in India and abroad, and the constant support of her family, coaches, and school. “Winning the national championship is a dream come true. I am grateful to my parents, coach Rakesh Kulkarni Sir, and my brother Daksh Jain, who helps me prepare for my games. I look forward to representing India and will work hard to bring more laurels to the country,” she said.
Her coach, Rakesh Kulkarni, praised her temperament, saying, “Krisha’s calmness under pressure and tactical clarity are remarkable for her age. She has the qualities to excel at the international level.”

She has participated multiple national and international level tournaments, often securing top prizes. Her disciplined practice routine, combined with her love for the game, has set her on the path to becoming one of India’s brightest young chess stars.
About the tournament
The 38th National Under-11 Chess Championship was held over seven days at the scenic Jain Hills, Jalgaon. The championship was inaugurated in the presence of Raksha Khadse (Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports), Smita Wagh (Member of Parliament), Ashok Jain (Chairman, Jain Irrigation), and Siddharth Mayur (Executive President, Maharashtra Chess Association), among other dignitaries. The event saw participation from over 550 players from across India, including nearly 400 with official FIDE ratings — a measure of the high standard of competition.
