Cricketer Virat Kohli-owned One 8 Commune pub and restaurant in Bengaluru has run into trouble again, after the Cubbon Park Police registered a suo-moto case for Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) violations. The pub has been booked under Sections 4 and 21 of COTPA for not having a designated zone within the restaurant for smoking.
Not the first violation by Virat Kohli's restaurant
One 8 Commune has faced actions in the past as well. An FIR was registered in June last year, for operating beyond the stipulated time.
The pub was found to be open until 1.30 am, beyond the permitted closing time of 1 am, the FIR alleged. The police action was based on complaints about loud music being played in the area late at night
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike had also issued a notice to the restaurant in December for not obtaining an NOC from the Fire Department. In 2024, the Bengaluru civic body issued a notice to the former Indian captain's restaurant in Bengaluru on a complaint alleging fire safety violations. The popular pub which has a branch in Mumbai as well is located on the sixth floor of Ratnams Complex on Kasturba Road near the Chinnaswamy stadium. It was alleged that the Bengaluru outlet was operating without implementing mandated fire safety measures or obtaining a fire department clearance certificate.
