The strapless gown featured delicate floral embroidery scattered across a champagne-toned base. The look gave the outfit a romantic and ethereal feel. The fitted bodice accentuated the silhouette, while the flowing skirt added a graceful touch to the look. She complemented the outfit with statement jewellery from Lorraine Schwartz, including sparkling drop earrings and a striking choker-style necklace that added just the right amount of glamour to the red carpet appearance. Ahead of the Oscars ceremony, Isha had also visited the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, where she met with the museum's Director and President Amy Homma. The meeting focused on their shared passion for cinema, arts and cultural storytelling. For the occasion, Isha chose a simple yet refined outfit, a crisp white shirt paired with denim pants. The gown was strapless and white, designed with a structured corset-style bodice that shaped the upper silhouette and highlighted the waist. From the midsection, the dress flowed into a long skirt featuring a dramatic thigh-high slit, which created movement and added a contemporary edge to the otherwise bridal-style design. Along the slit and lower portion of the gown, black-and-white feathered or tulle detailing added texture and visual contrast to the monochrome look. She paired the dress with diamond and emerald jewellery including a statement necklace and matching earrings. Her styling leaned toward Old Hollywood glamour, finger-wave style curls, luminous makeup, and subtle smoky eye accents.
16 March,2026 02:06 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentPopular stand up comedian Zakir Khan recently sparked concern among fans after appearing in hospital robes in a new vlog shared by his brother Arbaaz Khan. The video quickly drew attention online, with many viewers asking about the comedian’s health and wondering why he was in hospital. Zakir Khan gets hospitalised The vlog, filmed during the month of Ramzan, shows glimpses of Zakir inside a private room at Lilavati Hospital. In the video, he can be seen wearing a pink hospital robe while spending time with friends and family. The clip also captures him relaxing and watching a cricket match between India national cricket team and England cricket team on television. At one point in the vlog, Arbaaz asks his brother how he is feeling. Zakir responds casually while keeping his eyes on the match and says, “Match abhi fasa hua hai,” suggesting that the game was at a tense stage. His calm response seemed to lighten the atmosphere in the room, even though viewers quickly noticed that he was still recovering in hospital. However, the visuals left many fans worried. Soon after the vlog began circulating online, social media was flooded with messages from concerned followers who started asking about the comedian’s health and wishing him a speedy recovery. Some users also wondered what had led to his hospitalisation. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Arbaz khan (@arbazkhan0513) One fan commented, “Kia hua Zakir Khan ko??” while another wrote, “Why is Zakir bhai in hospital?” The comments section soon filled with questions and messages of support from fans who were clearly concerned after seeing him in hospital attire. Earlier this year, the comedian revealed that he planned to take an extended break from comedy to focus on his well being and personal matters. While no detailed update about his medical condition has been shared publicly so far, the vlog has reassured some fans who were relieved to see him in good spirits. Even while recovering in hospital, Zakir appeared relaxed and cheerful, reflecting the same easygoing personality that has made him one of India’s most loved comedians.
15 March,2026 01:10 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentIn 2024, Indian comedian Urooj Ashfaq became the first from the country to perform at the Edinburg Fringe Festival and even win an award for Best Newcomer performance. Now, the Fringe is all set to make its debut in India with its Mumbai edition and Urooj will be performing at the same.Known for her distinctive comedic voice, Ashfaq says fringe festivals offer performers a rare space to experiment while giving audiences a chance to discover something new. Why attend the Fringe festival? For audiences in India experiencing the format for the first time, Ashfaq believes the festival offers a unique cultural experience. “I think for the people who are experiencing the Fringe Festival for the first time in India, it's actually pretty iconic,” she tells mid-day. “I know there's not much awareness about the Fringe Festival, but it's a festival that has been going on in many different countries for a very long time.” According to her, the essence of the festival lies in discovery and creative freedom. “I think the point of the Fringe Festival is to discover new artists and maybe see the artists you already know, but also see them do new things,” she explains. “Because the Fringe, I think, is really about creatively letting loose from what I've experienced.” She adds that audiences attending the Mumbai edition should expect variety. “People should definitely look forward to discovering new types of comedy, new genres of comedy and new artists.” How Edinburgh changed her career Ashfaq’s journey at the Edinburgh fringe proved to be a turning point, especially after she won the Best Newcomer (Comedy) award. “For me personally, what changed is that I was able to find an audience in the UK that I was trying to build through YouTube and Instagram,” she says. “Now I was able to get people who are locals in the UK also to my show. So for me, it was nice because I'm able to expand my audience.” She describes the festival as a kind of creative classroom. “There are so many genres of comedy- alternative comedy, clowning, improv comedy, comedy plays. They're so diverse that it's like going to university. We don't really have that for stand-up.” For Ashfaq, it expanded the possibilities of what comedy could be. “As a writer, it showed me that the sky is the limit. It's not just the stuff I've seen on maybe Netflix, Amazon or YouTube. Just that you can do anything and make it funny was what I learned.” What audiences can expect in Mumbai At the Mumbai Fringe Festival, Ashfaq will perform in a lineup show alongside fellow female comedians. “We're doing a lineup show, me, Pavitra and Devanshi,” she says. “What's really fun about our show at the Fringe is that we're all friends, but our vibes overlap while also being very different.” Her set explores themes that are both personal and unexpected. “My set in particular is about erotica, which I've really gotten into in this show,” she says. “And some of it is about a surgery I had two years ago.” Interestingly, the two themes connect in surprising ways. “Strangely, they both really interlap and interconnect,” she adds with a laugh. “So I think that's something fun to look forward to.”
09 March,2026 01:09 PM IST | Mumbai | Athulya NambiarAs the Mumbai Fringe Festival gears up to welcome international performers, two distinct theatrical worlds will unfold on stage- a nostalgic Sherlock Holmes tale and a playful horror-comedy mime. British performers Nigel Miles-Thomas and David Hoskin spoke to mid-day.com about their shows, the spirit of fringe festivals, and what audiences can expect. A haunted house with comedy, horror and mime David Hoskin’s show Haunted House blends comedy, horror and physical theatre, inviting audiences into a classic gothic scenario. “Haunted House is a comedy-horror-mime show, so something for everyone,” David shares. “The audience arrives at this Haunted House after their car breaks down outside. It’s a very classic horror movie trope. A strange caretaker offers them shelter from a storm and then gives them a tour through an ancient mansion where you see the dead, the living and everything in between that occupy the house.” The show mixes theatrical traditions with physical storytelling. “It’s meant to be a little bit thrilling and have moments that are slightly scary and sometimes very strange,” he explains. “But it’s fundamentally comedy driven with gags, character comedy, and things in the tradition of European clown. There are also sections told purely through physicality and mime.” The show has already found audiences at major venues. “Audiences loved it at the Edinburgh Fringe. I recently performed it at Soho Theatre in London and it was received really well,” he adds, referring to the place where the Fringe festival was originated. While the show will remain largely the same for India, a few tweaks are inevitable. “It’s going to be pretty similar to what it is in the UK,” David says. “There’s a reference to a theme park in the UK that people outside the UK might not know, so I’ll change a couple of things. But I’m kind of resting on good faith and a little cultural exchange.” Sherlock Holmes returns to Baker Street Meanwhile, Nigel Miles-Thomas brings a more reflective theatrical experience rooted in the classic world of Sherlock Holmes. His show begins at a poignant moment in the detective’s life. “We find Sherlock Holmes more or less at the end of his life when he goes to the funeral of his great friend Dr Watson,” Nigel says. “He’s in retirement and doesn’t live in Baker Street anymore, but after the funeral he returns to the famous 221B Baker Street. That opens a whole chapter of memory.” The performance revisits the detective’s past cases and characters. “All the cases they solved together, all the characters they met in their life together — which can be amusing and also very sad,” he explains. “I play Sherlock Holmes predominantly, but I also create quite a lot of the characters involved in these Arthur Conan Doyle stories.” While many adaptations of Holmes exist, Nigel’s version leans towards tradition. “The writer and director wanted to root this firmly in the traditional Arthur Conan Doyle style,” he says. “Sherlock Holmes has an enormous worldwide audience. People love new interpretations, but they also feel very safe when they’re in the hands of traditional Sherlock Holmes.” The fast-paced world of fringe festivals For both performers, fringe festivals offer a unique space for experimentation and discovery. “Fringe festivals are incredibly useful for performers and great for audiences as well,” David says. “Edinburgh Fringe still wears the crown as the biggest international arts festival, but it’s not the be-all and end-all anymore.”He notes that smaller festivals around the world are gaining importance. “There are festivals outside the UK where the reputation is really building. Prague Fringe is a great example. Adelaide Fringe, Perth Fringe — audiences are starting to take notice.” He believes Mumbai’s festival shows similar promise. “Mumbai Fringe is an example of this. It’s already demonstrating it has the right attitude,” he says. Nigel agrees that performing at fringe festivals demands flexibility. “You have to be very flexible,” he says. “You don’t get much preparation time because venues have shows every hour. Sometimes you only get 15 minutes to get ready.” The pace can be intense, but performers thrive on it. “It’s fast moving and a little dangerous,” he says with a laugh. “But I think most performers kind of like that.” About Mumbai Fringe Festival The Mumbai Fringe Festival will make its India debut from March 10 to March 15, opening at the iconic Tata Theatre in NCPA before unfolding across Bandra’s creative circuit including Khar Comedy Club, 3 Art House and indifferent Gharonda. Over six days and nearly 60 performances, the festival will transform the neighbourhood into a dynamic cultural map where audiences move between venues, discover new voices and experience comedy, theatre, poetry, storytelling and experimental work in its most immediate form. The festival will feature artists such as Rohan Joshi, Kanan Gill, Varun Grover, Aakash Gupta, Priya Malik, Amandeep Khayal, Urooj Ashfaq and Amit Tandon, alongside acclaimed global works including Nigel Miles Thomas’s award-winning solo performance Sherlock Holmes: The Last Act, a striking solo adaptation of Macbeth presented by UK-based theatre company The Shakespeare Edit, and David Hoskin’s Haunted House, a genre-blending mix of mime, comedy and storytelling. True to the Fringe ethos, the programme is intimate, inventive and unafraid to take creative risks.
09 March,2026 11:51 AM IST | Mumbai | Athulya NambiarThe stand-up comedy scene in India is still in its evolving phase but one that is progressing positively. At the beginning, the scene was dominated by men, with very little woman. Among them was Urooj Ashfaq, who slowly built a space for herself with her distinct voice, making acute and humoruous observations about her everyday life. From cracking up Mumbaikars with her hilarious narration of a cab ride from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai and to making international audience crack up with her interesting take on her childhood and therapy sessions. Over the past few years, she has emerged as one of the most compelling voices in Indian stand-up, blending vulnerability with humour that resonates across audiences. Change in comedy landscap towards women In a space that has historically been dominated by men, voices like Ashfaq’s represent a shift in the Indian comedy landscape- one where women are claiming the stage with confidence, nuance, and authenticity. However, she does not feel she is the right person to answer the question about audience acceptance of female comedians. Having built an audience for herself with her style of comedy, Urooj feels the audience reacts more to how they place you. “I have built my audience,” she tells mid-day, adding that her audience today is aware of her existence as a comedian and can look beyond her gender. However, that is not case with people who are new in the scene. "If I were to go today and nobody knew me in a room in India, then I would be able to tell you the vibes. When I was starting out, there was a clear vibe." That initial perception can influence how audiences receive a comedian’s material. Early in her career, Ashfaq recalls being acutely aware of these subtle dynamics- reading the room carefully and figuring out whether resistance came from the jokes themselves or from gender bias. Because of this acceptance, she admits she sometimes feels slightly removed from the struggles that newer comedians face while trying to establish themselves. For performers who are just starting out- particularly women- the experience can be very different. “When people don’t know you at all, the first thing they register is your gender,” she explains. Today, she is curious to hear from younger comedians entering the scene. Urooj on her writing process For Ashfaq, comedy is not just about writing punchlines; it is a process that evolves on stage. “I’m a very mood-based person,” she says about her creative rhythm. When things are going well, she finds herself extremely productive, but on difficult days, the process slows down. Her writing method, she explains, begins with an idea that she tests live in front of an audience before shaping it into a polished routine. “I go on stage and try to say things. I keep an angle in mind, and something usually comes,” she says. Over time, she refines the material-writing, testing, rewriting and performing again- until the show feels complete. For Ashfaq, developing a stand-up set is not quick work. “It takes me a good year to make sure the show is complete and good.” Performing for Indian audience and international Performing at home in India, she says, comes naturally. The shared language, cultural references, and lived experiences make it easier to connect with the audience.“When I perform in India, I can default to our own language. I have more options to play around with because everybody is me,” she explains. However, performing internationally requires building a different skill set. There is often a gap between her experiences and those of audiences abroad, which means finding ways to bridge that difference on stage. At the same time, she notes that audiences outside India can sometimes be gentler. “They don’t want to make a faux pas or be mean,” she says, adding that Indian audiences tend to keep things more real and expect comedians to deliver quickly. Like every comedian, Ashfaq has had her share of moments when jokes simply don’t land. But rather than panic, she has learned to embrace the reality of bombing on stage. “A joke not working is not the end of the world,” she says. With years of experience behind her, she believes the key is to remain calm and self-aware. “The audience panics if you panic. You have the mic- you are the captain of the ship.” Urooj on dealing with online trolls Off stage, Ashfaq is also aware of the constant commentary that comes with sharing content online. While she believes it is important to listen to audiences, she has also learned to filter feedback carefully. “You don’t want to be delusional, but people are people,” she says, reflecting on the nature of online reactions. “If too many people say something wasn’t my best work, I’ll introspect,” she explains. “I’ll ask myself- have I become lazier? Is the writing not good?” Ultimately, however, she believes it is up to her to exercise judgment about what to take seriously.
09 March,2026 10:51 AM IST | Mumbai | Athulya NambiarCricketer Arjun Tendulkar and entrepreneur Saaniya Chandhok got married in a dreamy ceremony in Mumbai on 5th March. This high-profile extravaganza was brought to life by Vismay Chokshi, Founder and Director of Eternity by Trinity and Gehna Alimchandani, CEO of Eternity by Trinity. The wedding planners speak exclusively to Mid-day about planning a celebrity wedding while adding personalised cultural touches and ensuring privacy. Planning Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok’s wedding Chokshi and Alimchandani revealed that from the moment they began working with Arjun and Saaniya 5 months ago, their focus was never on the scale or media attention, but on ensuring that the celebrations felt intimate, warm, and true to the couple. They elaborated on the process, “Arjun and Saaniya spoke about wanting something elegant, rooted in tradition, and comfortable for their families and guests. Their vision was clear from day one: cultural authenticity, subtle grandeur, and a celebration that felt meaningful rather than flashy. They wanted to avoid unnecessary functions or anything over-the-top. The mood board evolved from that mindset.” Sharing the Tendulkar family's contribution to the decision-making process, they said, "The family was deeply involved at every stage. From approving concepts and colour palettes to discussing rituals, food, and guest flow, they were part of all key decisions." Marathi-Punjabi fusion The overarching theme was a fusion of cultural roots with refined elegance. Arjun and Saaniya chose to honour their respective Maharashtrian and Punjabi cultures by incorporating traditional elements in one function each. “The brief was very thoughtfully defined: a Punjabi Mehendi that celebrates the bride’s roots, and a Maharashtrian wedding that honours the groom’s heritage." Detailing the events, they said, "The Mehendi was imagined as a vibrant Punjabi carnival-style bazaar with colour, movement, and interactive experiences. The wedding ceremony followed a very different language, subtle grandeur, soft florals, a 270-degree mandap, and a serene atmosphere that highlighted the sanctity of the rituals rather than the decor itself." The wedding planners revealed how Arjun and Saaniya added personal touches to the functions, which came through culture and emotion rather than obvious symbolism. "For the Mehendi, we sourced special items directly from Amritsar that the bride and her family love, such as aam papad and mukhwas, and made them part of the gifting experience for guests. And for the wedding, the Maharashtrian Pangat was extremely important to the groom’s side. A multi-hall, high-volume seated dining experience was executed traditionally." The biggest challenge at Arjun and Saaniya's wedding Chokshi, Alimchandani and their team always work in big productions, so every event they handle has challenging logistics and expectations. However, with celebrities, there is the additional challenge of privacy. “With a high-profile guest list, security and privacy were naturally a major focus. Each vendor was bound by NDAs, and we introduced a personalised QR code entry system to manage guest access smoothly,” they said. Speaking about how they ensured guests maintained privacy on the big day without making them feel stifled, they said, “The challenge was balancing tight security with warm hospitality, making sure guests felt welcomed, not restricted. Planning seating for nearly 1200 guests while accommodating a much larger guest list required very detailed coordination, but that’s where structured planning really matters.” Saaniya is a Mumbai-based entrepreneur and the granddaughter of industrialist Ravi Ghai, chairman of Graviss Group. She has built a career in the pet-care and animal welfare sector and is known for her work as a veterinary technician and entrepreneur. Meanwhile, Arjun has been in impressive form in the DY Patil Cup and is set to play for Lucknow Super Giants in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL) season.

01 March,2026 02:08 PM IST | Mumbai | IANSIn a significant legal victory for Shikhar Dhawan, a family court in New Delhi has ordered his ex wife Aesha Mukherjee to return approximately Rs 5.7 crore that she received as part of a property settlement. The court held that the agreement was obtained through coercion and trickery. The order was passed by Judge Devender Kumar Garg of the Patiala House Court, who declared that the documents Dhawan had signed in relation to the financial settlement were null and void. The court observed that the consent was not given freely and that the settlement reflected undue influence, threats and fraudulent conduct rather than a fair agreement. Ayesha Mukherjee to return around Rs 5.7 crores to Shikhar Dhawan As per the ruling, Mukherjee has been directed to refund the amounts she received from the sale of two Australian properties, including 812,397.50 Australian dollars from a property in Berwick and 82,000 Australian dollars from another in Clyde North. She has also been asked to pay interest at 9 per cent per annum on these sums from the date the suit was filed until the full repayment is made. The court further held that an earlier order passed by an Australian family court, which divided the couple’s global assets, cannot be enforced in India. The Australian court had granted Mukherjee substantial financial benefits, including over 1.17 million Australian Dollars worth of assets, an additional 2.5 million Australian dollars payable by Dhawan, and a share in the tangible asset pool. It had also directed the transfer of a property to her. However, the Delhi court observed that the Australian court lacked jurisdiction to adjudicate marital disputes under Indian law. It also noted that the concept of property settlement as applied under Australian law is not recognised in the same manner under Indian matrimonial statutes, particularly the Hindu Marriage Act. As a result, the foreign court’s orders were found to be inconsistent with Indian legal principles. All about their divorce Dhawan and Mukherjee, who married in 2012 and divorced in 2023, have been involved in a prolonged legal battle over financial matters and custody issues. Dhawan had argued that he was pressured into signing certain documents and that threats were made which affected his professional and personal life. The ruling marks a decisive turn in the case, reinforcing that foreign court orders cannot automatically override Indian law, especially when consent is found to have been obtained under coercion.
