World Breastfeeding Week: Masaba Gupta on her journey with daughter Matara

As World Breastfeeding Week comes to an end, celebrity fashion designer and entrepreneur Masaba Gupta gets candid about her journey with daughter Matara, who was born in October 2024. The new mom on the block sat down with mid-day to have a heart-to-heart discussion about the highs and lows she endured while breastfeeding her baby girl.  Masaba, who got back to work 5 days after giving birth, says the mother’s guilt begins when you leave the house. But how does she keep it at bay? “I can completely switch off. When I'm here, I'm here, and I haven't once checked my camera or anything; I just don't do it. I think it's torture for me.” 'Breastfeeding should be a self-discovery' Masaba partnered with Philips Avent for their new hands-free electric breast pump. She believes that opinions from those around you can cloud the way a new mother thinks about breastfeeding and asserts that it should be a self-discovery; otherwise, it stresses you out. She suggests getting a lactation consultant on board for the initial months, as the process is very foreign to the body. She elaborates, “You don’t enjoy it because you’re too bogged down by how it should be done. There’s no right way. I think the right way is the way your baby feels most comfortable, and that you're not physically feeling let down.”           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Masaba (@masabagupta) For new mothers, breastfeeding can be an overwhelming task. Waking up at odd hours to express milk or postpartum depression taking over, it isn’t the greatest feeling for some. When asked how she dealt with such moments, Masaba avers that surrounding herself with the people she loves helped her. “Chatting with my mom (Neena Gupta), and not chatting too much with other people,” she asserts.  She further explains, “My aunt told me, ‘If you can put your phone off for 40 days and raise your child, you will be a superhuman’. I also stopped visitors. I didn’t want to see anyone for the first two months. I choose who comes and accesses my new world.” Masaba busts myths around breastfeeding  While a lot of well-wishers and the internet offer unsolicited advice for mothers when a new child is born, Masaba believes it is essential to leave it to the experts. There is a common myth of how moms need to eat certain foods for surplus milk and avoid those that can affect the baby via feeding. The mompreneur signs off stating, “Doctors that I spoke to at the time told me that there may not be any correlation to what you eat and your supply. It gave me a lot of relief because I want to enjoy my food. I was just exhausted. I had also gone on my journey of nutrition and health, and eating right before I got pregnant. So I had discovered a lot of stuff that works for me. I think just call your doctor a lot more than being on Google.”

Yuvika Chaudhary

World Breastfeeding week 2025: Yuvika Chaudhary on challenges and social stigma

Yuvika Chaudhary has been currently enjoying her motherhood bliss and gearing up for work. The actress has been shooting for a project, but she manages to balance it out around her daughter's needs. In an exclusive chat with mid-day, Yuvika details her breastfeeding journey on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week 2025. From challenges, depression, to severe pain, here's what she shared:  Yuvika on breastfeeding challenges Yuvika shared, "Initially, it was very challenging. I was not comfortable, not just comfortable, I didn't know how to feed. It takes time when you start feeding. So, your body takes time to get into the rhythm of milk. Initially, it doesn't come when you have to go through certain phases, where I was struggling basically.  Initially, I was not having milk in my breast. But when I started having milk, the doctor was teaching me how to feed. So, my little baby and I struggled a lot. But when we got the flow, each other, then it became really easy because initially I was taking the help of a pump and all. But it was very painful." She further added, "My baby, come what may, you know, I have to do this because otherwise I would feel guilty. I'm not able to do this. I'm not able to feed my baby. What is it? that guilt factor comes. I was in guilt, but thank God, with the help of the doctor, they were like, it's okay, it happens, it's not a big deal, it is a phase, it happens with everyone. And at least you're lucky you have a feed to give to your baby. I used to initially use the pump to feed, but then I started feeding my baby. So, it was, it became really relaxing and beautiful for me. I'm like, okay, now I'm not stressed at all." Yuvika on challenges with C-section Yuvika opened up about the pain that comes with C-section, "The pain is so much in your body, and your body is very fragile, and mine is C-section-based. When your body is going through a lot of changes, your mind is never stable. Emotionally, you are on a different level altogether. You feel weak mentally, physically. And why do you feel mentally more? Because you feel that your health, your body, is not the way you want. Earlier, it used to be healthy. But these are signs of a basic change. And especially it was kind of after the C-section. These are the things which you face later on. So, I say, people say, you know, C-section is easy and normal is not easy. C-section is not easy. You need guts to go through a C-section. It is really, really different. And then I was like, oh God, I would have gone through normal. But my condition was like, no, I had to go through a C-section only." Yuvika added, "The back pain is constant, and your body is fragile after the operation. It is so fragile that you are basically in depression. You get into depression so badly. And till the time you are not alright, postpartum depression is this only. Because your body goes through so much of changes. You are mentally blank. And when you are blank, you cry. So, I was going through those changes in my body that I used to feel so weak, so weak, helpless. Even after having good support around me, I still used to feel this." She also lauded women who deliver alone, "And I can imagine people who don't have support, you know, how do they manage? I am lucky that I had my family around. Everybody was around me. Everyone used to call. Everyone was concerned. But people who give birth alone and who have no support, I can say, salute them, boss. Giving birth alone it's really tough." On breaking social stigma of breastfeeding in public On breaking the social stigma of breastfeeding in public, "It's a normal thing. Why can't we normalise it? And I am not saying that you are openly going, and showing off and feeding, no. It's a requirement. If there is no specific place. Either you arrange for a place everywhere. Like, there are toilets. Or there are so many facilities. In India, there are booths everywhere. Nice, neat and clean. And if that facility is not there. Then just normalise. It's a requirement of a mother. Every woman becomes a mother. So, people should be educated. We should leave the backwards world. And move forward. You are feeding milk to a child. You are feeding in a proper way." Yuvika quipped, "You say you are not gender biased. But then this thing happens. Either we get facilities. As I said. Like, there are washrooms everywhere. On every stop. There has to be. A facility for a feeding room. Either we do that. Or you should be so normal. You should not feel conscious. Your child is hungry. Like a child urinates. Like this. It is also hungry. I think with time, like how we are talking about this now. This will change. I have a very, very good hope. We are addressing it so, it's like a good chance that changes may happen."

World Breastfeeding Week 2025: Neha Dhupia bats for normalisation of the topic

Actress Neha Dhupia has always been at the forefront of promoting women-centric initiatives. She is set to amplify her much-lauded initiative Freedom to Feed for World Breastfeeding Week 2025, with a fresh round of candid, powerful conversations and new voices joining the movement. About the initiative Launched in 2019, Freedom to Feed was born from Neha’s personal journey into motherhood and her desire to normalize public breastfeeding without stigma, shame, or judgment. The platform has since evolved into a collective of shared experiences, honest dialogue, and solidarity among mothers and caregivers. Speaking about reigniting the campaign, Neha said: “When I first launched Freedom to Feed, it came from a deeply personal space — from feeling vulnerable, judged, and isolated during what should have been the most natural and empowering time of my life. Over the years, I’ve realised how many women have felt the same, and how powerful it can be when we come together to share our stories. This year, I want to make the conversation even louder, even more honest. Because no woman should be made to feel ashamed for simply feeding her child. This is about choice, dignity, and respect and it’s time we all stood up for that.”           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Freedom To Feed (@freedomtofeed) This year, Neha will be engaging in meaningful digital conversations with celebrated actors Radhika Apte, Yuvika Chaudhary, and Sonali Sehgall, diving deep into themes of body autonomy, societal pressures, and the emotional landscape of motherhood. Over the years, Freedom to Feed has garnered support from some of the most respected names in entertainment including Bipasha Basu, Freida Pinto, Soha Ali Khan, and Dia Mirza, who have all spoken out in support of a more open, understanding dialogue around breastfeeding and maternal health. Shweta and Palak Tiwari

Shweta Tiwari paid extra money to Palak Tiwari when she did household chores

Actress Shweta Tiwari recently discussed her relationship with daughter Palak Tiwari, revealing that the two are like buddies. Shweta spoke with Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa for their YouTube channel Bharti TV about her parenting approach, explaining how she used to track Palak's phone and force her to complete home duties in exchange for money. Shweta's parenting tips for Palak Shweta stated that she was not strict, although there were some rules. She emphasised the significance of discipline and punctuality in Palak's life, particularly when it came to setting boundaries. She stated that if Palak pledged to return home by 1 a.m., she should be at the door at that time, not simply leaving the party. She admitted to following Palak's phone, saying, "I was a little concerned because she is a girl and society is weird. Even though she does not drink, those around her do. She received her first phone when she arrived at college. She was 16 when she received her makeup. She used to wear no makeup to school functions." Shweta would pay extra for household chores to Palak Shweta further shared how she managed Palak's expenses and helped her with financial planning, "She was given a budget. For instance, I allowed her to spend ₹25,000, and if she went from ₹25,000 to ₹30,000, she knew that she would be asked to do household chores to compensate for it. There was a full list of chores. For cleaning her bathroom, she would get ₹1,000, ₹500 for making the bed, and ₹1,000 for doing the dishes. So she would do all of these things, and when she knew she was going to go over budget, she would do extra chores beforehand." Shweta revealed that even today, she manages Palak's finances; she doesn't let her spend all her money. Instead, she immediately invests a sum of her paycheck as soon as it arrives. She said, "I would restrict her from spending all, I only give her a certain amount, the rest I either put in savings or make investments on her behalf. I believe this is the only age and time when she can earn enough and focus on hard work. Later, this same amount will help her only when she wants to spend time off from work. I have also made sure that she travels independently and not by car. When she shows a tantrum, I ask her to take a cab or rickshaw if the car isn't available."  Shweta established herself in the television industry with her portrayal of Prerna Sharma in Kasautii Zindagii Kay. She went on to participate in Bigg Boss season 4 and won the show. Shweta became one of the highest-paid actors on Indian television after portraying notable roles such as Sweety Ahluwalia in Parvarrish, Bindiya Thakur in Begusarai, Guneet Sikka Sharma in Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, and Aparajita Singh in Main Hoon Aparajita.

Mandira Bedi and kids

Mandira Bedi talks about adopting grown-up parentless kids: So many kids..

Mandira Bedi, an actor and host of a cricket show, has stated that although adopting infants is common, adult children without parents should also have adoptive parents. She added that in order to encourage individuals to adopt, the procedure need to be made easier. Adoption, according to Bedi, the mother of both biological and adopted children, "was never the last resort for us." She further said, "Even when I was dating my husband, I told him I’ve always wanted to have a biological child and adopt one. It wasn't just a passing thought—it was a dream I held on to from my early 20s." On encouraging the adoption of young children During a panel discussion titled "Normalising and Encouraging Adoption in India," Bedi stated that motherhood is defined by intention, love, and a lifelong commitment rather than blood. While discussions on adoption frequently focus on babies, Bedi brought attention to a fact that is sometimes disregarded: the predicament of older orphaned children in the adoption system. "So many kids are left behind. Everyone wants a newborn they can hold from birth. However, slightly older kids are overlooked and forgotten inside the system. Since no one else does, consider them as well," she remarked. Recalls when she adopted Tara Bedi shared that her daughter Tara was four years old when she returned home, drawing on her experience as an adopted mother. At the adoption agency, she recalled a heartbreaking story of a young girl who had been chosen for adoption three times and was returned each time because of unanticipated circumstances. It was devastating. The young girl was still without a home. When older children are left behind, it is terribly upsetting. But it works—I'm live proof. They may develop into whatever you've ever imagined if you instill your ideals in them and show them love, the actor stated. Bedi lost her husband, Raj Kaushal in 2021. She has an adoptive daughter, Tara Bedi Kaushal, and a biological son, Vir Kaushal. In the past, Bedi hosted the IPL and the ICC Cricket World Cups and had starred in TV soap operas "Aurat" and "Kyunki Saaas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi." Last week, 'Sunfeast Mom's Magic' hosted the conversation.

Mother’s Day 2025: Diksha Dhami shares heartfelt wish for her mom

Diksha Dhami calls her mother her 'Guiding Light' during her Mother’s Day tribute As we get ready to celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday, actress Diksha Dhami, who plays Chaina in the show "Badi Haveli Ki Chhoti Thakurain", reflected on just how deeply her mother has influenced her, both personally and professionally.  “My mom has always been my biggest strength and guiding light,” Diksha shared. “She’s a folk singer and a writer, so I grew up surrounded by music, stories, and performance. But more than anything, she taught me to believe in myself and follow my passion.” One of her fondest memories? Her first break in the television world. “I still remember when I got my first role in a TV show—she was the happiest person in the room, cheering louder than anyone else. And you know what? She was also the one who recorded my first audition tape. She believed in me even before I believed in myself.” Even now, Diksha’s mother continues to be her constant supporter. “She watches every single episode of 'Badi Haveli Ki Chhoti Thakurain' without fail. She’s my biggest fan and my most honest critic. She gets so involved in the story that when someone taunts me in the show for being abandoned by my reel mother, she actually gets upset! She hugs me and says - Main toh tujhse kabhi door nahi reh sakti, main toh tujhe hamesha itna hi pyaar karti rahungi.” And sometimes, she even has life advice to offer based on the show. “She often says - I wish Diksha learns a few things from Chaina—how she balances emotions, responsibilities, and relationships so gracefully." Talking about her bond with her mother, Diksha shared, “She’s taught me never to hurt anyone—intentionally or unintentionally—and to help anyone I can. I’ve learned so much from her, and I wish I could be as calm and patient as she is.” On this Mother’s Day, Diksha shared a simple yet meaningful message for her mother, saying, “Thank you, Mom—for being my first teacher, my loudest cheerleader, and my forever safe place.
