The actor left Mumbai on Monday for New Delhi from where he took an early morning Tuesday flight to Leh. Inclement weather forced the flight to hover in the skies for quite a while till landing clearance was given.
"I am here to be with the students because I was told that they are in a state of shock. Nature can be real cruel sometimes but luckily, there were no casualties in the school but they are under emotional trauma. I will try my best to bring back their smiles," Aamir told local media.
Reaching out
He added, "I am here to see what kind of assistance they need, so that we can help raise the money. Apart from my personal contribution, we all have to contribute as a country because it is a huge tragedy. The country should reach out to the people of Leh in these testing times."
What remains...
Slush and boulders have filled up the interiors of the school even though the main stone building remains intact. The floods ravaged the interiors and among the stuff washed away was the book Aamir had signed especially for the school during the filming of 3 Idiots.
The actor will spend the entire day today with the students. The tragedy has left them shell-shocked and as they are familiar with him from to the 3 Idiots shoot, he will try and counsel them out of the tragedy.
The Druk White Lotus School is run by the Buddhist Drukpa under the supervision of their spiritual leader Gyalwang Drukpa.
