Aamir Khan and Zoya Akhtar to collaborate nine years after Dil Dhadakne Do?

Aamir Khan, also known as Mr. Perfectionist, recently made headlines when he appeared on Kapil Sharma’s ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’. The actor, known for films like ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘PK’, is now reportedly set to join hands with filmmaker and close friend Zoya Akhtar. Nine years after ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, the two will collaborate on a film in which Aamir will play a middle-aged protagonist. According to report, nine years after ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ (2015), in which he lent his voice to the Mehra family’s pet dog, Pluto, Aamir Khan is set to team up with Zoya Akhtar for a film. They recently met to discuss a movie on which she wants to collaborate with him. Aamir is said to have liked the slice-of-life narrative with a middle-aged protagonist. Since he is known to not finalize a film until he hears the complete script, he has suggested Zoya develop the screenplay and meet him again for a narration. If all goes well, the film will be a joint production between Aamir’s banner and Zoya and Reema Kagti’s Tiger Baby Productions. For now, he is busy with RS Prasanna’s 'Sitare Zameen Par', slated to release around Christmas 2024. Regarding his current work, Aamir Khan is busy working on 'Sitare Zameen Par". According to the latest report, Aamir Khan's 'Sitare Zameen Par' will focus on Down Syndrome and the challenges faced by individuals dealing with it. A source close to the development revealed to Hindustan Times, "Just like ‘TZP’, Aamir Khan aims to bring attention to another condition stigmatized in our society through ‘Sitare Zameen Par’. He has found a heartfelt story that illuminates Down Syndrome and the experiences of those dealing with it. He intends to handle the subject with great sensitivity, creating an impact that encourages treating people with the syndrome as equals." The source added that other details about the film are currently under wraps. It is not confirmed whether this film will mark Aamir Khan's directorial comeback or if he will only produce it. However, reports suggest that the movie will star Genelia Deshmukh and is scheduled for release on Christmas this year.

War 2 meets Brahmastra: Hrithik, Jr NTR, Alia & Ranbir enjoy dinner outing

Crossovers in film? Nah, everybody does that. A crossover in real life? Now that sounds like a perfect Sunday idea from Ayan Mukerji. The ace director managed to bring the stars of his own films together for a casual outing. Yesterday, excitement surged when it was revealed that the cast of 'War 2' and 'Brahmastra' met for a dinner night. 'War 2' Meets 'Brahmastra' Last night, a paparazzi account shared a video of Ranbir Kapoor and Jr NTR stepping out of the car, both twinning in black. The two then waited for Ranbir's wife, Alia Bhatt, to join them. While we were thrilled to see these three together, we didn't know we were in for a bigger treat. Just after Alia, Ranbir, and Jr NTR arrived at Veronica’s Restaurant, another car pulled up, and filmmakers Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji emerged. Shortly after, another video was shared on the paparazzi account showing lovebirds Saba Azad and Hrithik Roshan arriving for the dinner party. In the video, Hrithik could be seen wearing a striped grey shirt, dark grey pants, and a brown cap, while Saba held his hand, sporting a white crop top, pants, and heels. About 'War 2' 'War 2,' the sixth film of the Yash Raj Films (YRF) spy universe, is directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film pits superstar Hrithik Roshan against NTR Jr in a bloody showdown of epic proportions. It also stars Kiara Advani, while the music is composed by Pritam. A report by mid-day.com states that the two actors will also engage in a dance-off in the new thriller. While it was a foregone conclusion that the Aditya Chopra production would include a dance number featuring Hrithik, it seems the makers have devised a situation to involve Taarak’s character in showcasing his nimble-footed skills as well, especially after his smooth moves in the Oscar-winning song, ‘Naatu Naatu,’ from SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ (2022), co-starring Ram Charan. Reportedly, Pritam has created a pacy track that is said to be one of the high points of the thriller. Considering that Hrithik’s song, ‘Jai Jai Shivshankar,’ with Tiger Shroff in ‘War’ (2019), was a chartbuster, the makers are leaving no stone unturned in upping the ante in all aspects, from scale and action to emotions and music.

Anees Bazmee and Ayushmann Khurrana

Have you heard? A busy year ahead for Ayushmann Khurrana

mid-day had reported that Ayushmann Khurrana is teaming up with director Anees Bazmee for a horror comedy titled Bhootiyapa (Setting a date with spirits, April 10). Now, rumours are rife that the actor and the director, who have been keen on working together, are yet to lock on the subject. “At this point, it is not known if the project is a horror comedy, the double-role film that Shahid Kapoor was supposed to do, or an entirely different subject,” says a source. Nonethless, the informer maintains that  in keeping with Bazmee’s forte, the movie will have a good mix of humour, romance and drama. Incidentally, this project marks Ayushmann’s fourth collaboration with Junglee Pictures, after Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Badhaai Ho (2018) and Doctor G (2022). Ayushmann is slated to commence work on Karan Johar and Guneet Monga’s spy comedy in July, followed by a vampire comedy with Samantha, and Vikramaditya Motwane’s biopic on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. Bazmee is currently working on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and is scheduled to commence No Entry Mein Entry in December. So, it remains to be seen which film will they eventually team up for.  Sand doesn’t mean Dune  After considerable thought, the makers of Kalki 2898 AD have finally locked its release date. Sharing a new poster of the Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone-starrer on social media, the production house wrote, “All the forces come together for a better tomorrow on June 27, 2024.” Initially slated to release in January this year, director Nag Ashwin’s futuristic thriller was deferred to May 9 as the extensive VFX took longer time to create. However, the Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on May 13 compelled the makers to look for an alternative date with cinemas. Interestingly, Nag was recently asked about Kalki 2898 AD being compared to the Hollywood biggie, Dune, helmed by Denis Villeneuve. The filmmaker laughed it off, saying, “Yeah! That is because you see sand. Wherever you see sand, it looks like Dune.” The film also features Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in pivotal roles.  Jolly face-off begins Over six years after Jolly LLB 2, director Subhash Kapoor has kick-started the third instalment of his courtroom drama franchise. Jolly LLB 3 revolves around the legal wrangle between the two Jollys—Arshad Warsi, who played Jagdish Tyagi aka Jolly in the 2013 film, and Akshay Kumar, who essayed Jagdishwar Mishra aka Jolly in the 2017 offering—in the courtroom of Judge Sunderlal Tripathi. Veteran actor Saurabh Shukla returns to play the judge for the third time. Apparently, Arshad begins filming first, with a month-long schedule in Rajasthan. Akshay is said to join the shoot later. It is learnt that Subhash has found a relevant case on which the latest instalment is centred. The names of the leading ladies will be known in the coming days. The film will open in cinemas next year.  Dance you must!  On the eve of International Dance Day, Nicktoons Motu and Patlu celebrated the occasion with mom bloggers and child celebs like Nitya Moyal, Azinkya Mishra, Vidhaan Sharma, Mahi Bhanushali and Arshiya Sharma, in association with Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts. The idea was to also encourage imagination and individuality among children. Reiterating that one doesn’t have to be a great dancer to shake a leg, Shiamak said, “Dance gives you a lot of power to be yourself, it has become a great form of self-expression.” Sharing his belief that today’s kids have the ability to take dance to new heights, he added, “For children, it is crucial to explore avenues beyond the digital realm and that is why dance needs to be a part of school curriculum. It equips them with the tools they need to thrive in whatever path they choose.” Talking movies Nine years after Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), in which he lent his voice to the Mehra family’s pet dog, Pluto, Aamir Khan is said to team up with Zoya Akhtar for a film. Shraddha Kapoor

Tu producer, main star

After having only one release in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar in 2023, Shraddha Kapoor, in a fan meet-and-greet session earlier this year, revealed that she was working on a few projects that included a mythological adaptation and a time-travel story. Now, mid-day has learnt that she has also liked a drama to be backed by her rumoured beau, Rahul Mody, who co-wrote Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. If things work out, the actor will not only headline the film, but also turn producer with it.  Rahul Mody Little is known about the movie’s plot at present as the makers are keeping details under wraps. A source reveals, “The talks are in the nascent stage, so it can’t be determined whether this will be her next project. But Shraddha has liked the central idea. She plans to co-produce it along with Rahul’s production house.”  Director Luv Ranjan’s romantic comedy was Kapoor’s first release in three years since the action fare, Baaghi 2 (2020). This year, we hear the actor wants to keep the momentum going with Stree 2, the sequel to Rajkummar Rao-led horror comedy, Stree (2018). The source adds, “Stree 2 is one of the year’s most-awaited films. Going forward, Shraddha wants to carefully select her projects, choosing ones that evoke a similar kind of buzz. She also doesn’t want long gaps between her films.”

Pratik Gandhi: โ€˜Prepped for eight years in three languagesโ€™

Four months into 2024, Pratik Gandhi sits comfortably with two much-loved films, Madgaon Express and Do Aur Do Pyaar, behind him. But what lies ahead makes the actor happier—the web series, Gandhi. Based on historian Ramachandra Guha’s books Gandhi Before India and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World, Hansal Mehta’s show dissects the man behind the world-renowned leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, better known as Mahatma Gandhi. Pratik, who recently kicked off its London schedule, says, “I get nervous when I do a series; even on my 200th show, I’m nervous. On Gandhi, I try not to think of the magnitude or expectations. I only think of my excitement. I try to bring the rigour that will pull me through for 120 days. It’s a plus that Hansal sir and everyone in the crew also has that rigour.”  Hansal Mehta It’s fascinating how some roles become an integral part of an actor’s life. Since 2015, Pratik has been playing the Mahatma in a play titled Mohan No Masalo. As he brings the character alive again, this time on screen, the actor views it as something far bigger than a coincidence. “I was destined to do this. I have been prepping for this for nearly eight years in three languages [Gujarati, Hindi and English]. This character has been a spiritual performance [for me].” Pratik Gandhi The actor, who broke out with Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020), has been seen in two back-to-back theatrical offerings recently. Does going back to a series worry him since theatrical releases are perceived to be the way forward? “I never think of OTT and big screen as different. I look for a story. Madgaon Express’ success is empowering; [it tells us that] people come to screens for stories. As actors, all we can do is portray a character memorably and give our all. I want my stories to surprise people. I have a range of emotions to display in Gandhi. The Hindi film audience has never seen me play such a character, and I hope that shock value will land.” We can’t end our chat without asking him whether Madgaon Express will have a sequel, as rumours suggest. “Kunal [Kemmu, director] left that Las Vegas reference in the end. So, he may have something in mind.”

Karan Johar explains why he stays away from the โ€˜Nโ€™ word aka 'Nepotism'

Filmmaker Karan Johar has once again addressed the topic of nepotism, but this time he said that he stays "away from the 'N' word" on his social media. Karan shared a video on Instagram featuring Zarna Garg, an Indian-American stand-up comedian, who is currently in India for her show titled 'Practical People Win'. In the clip, Karan and Zarna, whose work is heavily based on her real-life experience as an Indian immigrant mom in America, discuss how Indian children used to aspire to become doctors and accountants in the past. Describing Karan as her "nemesis", Zarna said that because of the filmmaker, children aspire to become actors. She then goes on to say: “Nepotism was great.” When Zarna prompts Karan for a response, he appears momentarily speechless before expressing his affection with "I love you" and a hug. Zarna hilariously then tells him: "First of all, you obviously don’t know my work, because we don't use the 'L' word around here," which leaves Karan in splits. For the caption, Karan wrote: “Aunty Z giving us her TOTD (Thought of the day)! I am rarely speechless, but I thought on this topic I should maintain an undignified silence!” “She doesn’t use the L word, and I stay away from the 'N' word! We are a match made in digital heaven,” he added. The topic of "nepotism" gained widespread attention in 2017 after actress Kangana Ranaut referred to Karan as the “flag-bearer of nepotism” on 'Koffee With Karan'.
