The Taare Zameen Par wonder-kid is no longer a child. Darsheel Safary turned 13 on Tuesday. And the biggest 
relief for the adored child was that all the constant cheek-pulling would stop. "I am now legally at an age when any kind of physical contact is forbidden," says the boy and bursts into a giggle.
Darsheel has been studying hard for his exams. And on his birthday, there was no fanfare at the Safary residence. No-one from the film fraternity, including senior and junior members of Taare Zameen Par cast and crew even remembered to wish him.
Doesn't matter
The boy seemed nonchalant and happy to be with his immediate family. "It doesn't matter if there's no big party. I had a big celebration last year. And I still have a hangover. I've been studying very hard for my exams, and have no time for fun. So even my friends wished me in school only."
What did he do for his birthday? "In the morning, I cut a cake and I went to the temple. Then I fed grass to a cow. That's an annual ritual. It's supposed to bring good luck. This year, I hope to continue doing good work and make my parents proud."
Won't have the time
Darsheel now prepares for a month of intense promotion and marketing of his second film as a leading man. "In Zokkomon, I again play the main character. So I'll have to do all the interviews. Then I'll have no time for studies." Whether he signs films in the future would depend entirely on the kind of roles on offer. "After Taare Zameen Par and Zokkomon, I can't just play the hero's son. I leave the decision on what to do with my father."
