Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, known for her bold roles, feels she is stuck in a groove with her glam girl image

Fed up with glam image, wants constructive roles: Mallika Sherawat

"The glamorous roles have given me name, fame, success and independence but at the same time this image has worked against me as well. I have got stereotyped. I am not getting interesting offers which I can accept," Mallika told PTI in an interview here. The 36-year-old actress said she has done enough in this space and is eager to do something constructive.

"I am hoping that new directors will offer me challenging roles. "I don't just want to look pretty in films, do songs, have two-three dialogues... I am looking forward to do interesting and challenging roles," Mallika said. The actress feels there's a dearth of roles for actresses even though Indian cinema is changing. "Absolutely... There is a dearth of roles for actresses today though the scenario is improving. Very few Bollywood films have meaty roles for actresses.

Films like 'The Dirty Picture', 'Kahaani' come once or twice a year. Majority of films are commercial masala where heroines have (to be content with) glamorous roles, singing songs," the actress said. Mallika will be seen in a complete desi avatar in her upcoming film 'Dirty Politics', where she essays the role of Anokhi Devi.

The film is based on real-life story of Jodhpur nurse Bhanwari Devi, who was killed under mysterious circumstances after her alleged relationship with politicians. The film directed by KC Bokadia, stars Om Puri, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher, Ashutosh Rana in key roles.

Two of Mallika's films 'Welcome' and 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects' are being made into sequels and the actress is quite happy about it. "The role I did in 'Welcome' was small but still people love and remember it and it feels great.

(Though) I am not part of sequels, it doesn't bother me at all because I moved on. It's about the choice of filmmakers and requirement and suitability of the role," she said. Besides films, Mallika will be seen on TV reality show "Bachelorette India - Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika". The show will go on air on Life OK from tomorrow. u00a0
