Hot-shot Namit

Namit Khanna believes in pursuing his interests with passionu00a0-- be it walking the ramp or clicking pictures. The model who's a known face in several cosmetic, bike, paint television ad campaigns, tells CS how his love for photography may evolve into a profession:

I used to work in O & M, Delhi as a client servicing guy and would take up one-off modelling assignments. In 2007, I shifted my base to Mumbai to pursue modelling as a full-time career. It was this year that I went to Pithy valley near Ladakh for a holiday and discovered my love for photography. I'd planned to stay for a few days and ended up staying three weeks with my Canon 30 D camera. Then after a few assignments, I bought some expensive full frame, high-end equipment.

On a roll
Since I had to travel extensively on my modelling assignments, I made time to shoot on these trips. But now I've started capturing moments backstage as well. I love to catch people's expressions. Besides that, people on the road, kids, even my friends make for interesting subjects. Many people now ask me to shoot their portfolios; it's a great feeling.

But there's one photograph that I really love. It is that of an old man. The snap makes you ask many questions and that's what makes any picture interesting. Also, I love the antique feel of the picture.

Slow and steady
I don't want to jump the gun and say that I've become a pro at photography. A lot of appreciation comes my way, but I still have a long way to go before I master the art. Let's just say that I've worked with India's greatest photographers and the experience has helped me improve my skills as I ask a lot of questions. I've learnt basic artwork techniques and know a bit of Photoshop, so I end up with some decent work. Also, I look up the Internet for literature on photography. But I think my plus point is that I connect really well with my subjects. I can understand what they are feeling since I've been through similar experiences so I manage to bring out the desired effect.
