The awareness drive is similar to Hollywood's Don't Vote commercial

Those who have watched the Hollywood Don't Vote campaign during the US elections will find Karan Johar's Lead India awareness film in a similar vein. The Kuch Nahi Ho Sakta video directed by Tarun Mansukhani, which stars the young actors of Bollywood, looks and sounds very similar to the 2008 Hollywood video. The dialogues for the film have been written by Niranjan Iyengar.

Changing tones

The Kuch Nahi Ho Sakta film part of the Lead India initiative has Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Imran Khan, Asin, Shahid Kapur, Riteish Deshmukh, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Karan Johar.

The video starts with Abhishek Bachchan and other actors saying 'kuch nahi ho sakta' as they talk about social issues like corruption, unemployment affecting the country. The tone of the commercial is negative which later talks about hope and change than can be made by voting.

Similarly, the Hollywood video that stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Aniston along with other celebrities, starts off by asking the public not to vote. The actors also address burning issues affecting their country and have sarcasm and satire in their tone. Towards the end, the actors talk about the difference that can be made by casting one simple vote.

Humko malum nahi!

When contacted, Tarun Mansukhani, who has directed the video, denies any similarities between the two. "I have not seen the Don't Vote campaign and know nothing about it. I don't think we need to emulate the Americans as we are capable of addressing out issues on our own. The motive behind making Kuch Nahi Ho Sakta was simple that people should watch it and realise the importance of their vote."
