There is something charmingly ethnic about Nikasha Tawadey's shows. She keeps her runway simple, and her designs are never apologetic about being Indian. Singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan set the mood with Aaj Din Chadhiya from Love Aaj Kal, with model Surelee wearing a fragile silk sari with a Benarasi net pallu and weighed down by embroidered Siuli flowers and a gota border. The motif of Siuli (Parijat) bound the collection together with its mythological appeal (it's believed to be a heavenly tree brought to earth by Lord Krishna). Love knots created from Chikankari mixed with antique Mukaish and Karchobi needlework, which the designer claims is a rare combination of techniques. Her obsession for boho-chic has turned into a trademark. Patiala salwars fastened with buttons at the ankle, conservative kurtas sporting a sexy twist with plunging backs, and sheer blouses hidden behind six yards walked the ramp in shades of turmeric and coral. The designs even managed to squeeze a smile out of model Tamara Moss, who has made a career out of frowning on ramp.
