Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani has dropped plans of making a movie on Operation Blue Star since he feels the topic could be "too controversial".

The 1984 military operation was ordered by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to remove Sikh militants amassing weapons in the Harmandir Sahib Complex (Golden Temple) to get control over it. It was launched in response to a deterioration of law and order in Punjab. Nikkhil told PTI, "Every single person I know from Punjab said I won't be able to live in this country [if I made the film]." He said he had shared the idea with actor Gippy Grewal, who was too scared to even hear him out.

"It's an event that should be documented. But it's too controversial." He dismissed buzz that he had discussed the project with Akshay Kumar.
