Filmmaker Nikhil Advani has begun shooting for the remake of Subhash Ghai's 1983 blockbuster 'Hero'.

According to reports, the 42-year-old has completely re-written the story of the original film, which featured Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Seshadri in the lead role.
The principal photography of the movie began at Gateway of India.
"And so it begins! First day mahurat film shoot 'Hero' at Gateway of India," Advani posted on microblogging website Twitter Sunday.
The director has helmed films like 'D-Day', 'Kal Ho Naa Ho', 'Patiala House' and 'Chandni Chowk To China'.
