*u00a0Besides politics, Chavez has hosted live talk shows. He's famous for his speeches that often drag on and on. His weekly Sunday talk show has gone on for eight hours.

*u00a0He played baseball professionally with the Criollitos de Venezuela, progressing with them to the Venezuelan National Baseball Championships in 1969. Chavez also wrote numerous poems, stories and theatrical pieces.

*u00a0A former lieutenant colonel, Chavez spent much of his later military career conspiring with other leftist officials to overthrow the country's corrupt political order. He led a 1992 coup that failed but made him famous and drove him toward the presidency.

*u00a0He made it to a magazine's list of the world's 100 most influential people in 2005 and 2006.
