Writer-director-producer Vikram Bhatt is on a spook spree. After Raaz and 1920, he's all geared up to release Shaapit-The Cursed. Vikram who is battling a severe back sprain, talks to CS about his obsession for the supernatural

Tryst with the other worldI do believe in spirits, and I have done a course in psychic meditation. There are souls that exist without a body. In the course of seances, I talk to my spirit guides. People think that all spirits are bad but that's not the case. We don't make films about good spirits as no one is interested in them. I have seen spirits in the course of my psychic sessions. Way back in 1993-94, I was shooting at this rundown mill in South Mumbai, when I heard screams from an untraceable source. That was quite scary.

Handling flops
Frankly, I don't know how I survived those six years when I delivered only flops. When I look back I feel that someone up there really loves me a lot. Well, the fact that I made movies on a tight budget worked for me at that time. The producers knew that their money was safe with them so I was getting work even when my movies were bombing. When you cannot deliver over a period of time, you do start doubting yourself. But I knew for a fact that I was trying to tell a different story with every film. Then I realised that perhaps I was trying too hard to deliver a hit, and just needed a break to rejuvenate myself. For a year, I just sat down doing nothing, and wrote the script of 1920. That movie was a hit and things changed for me. I believe that success is nothing, but delayed failures. In an industry, where 90 percent of the films flop, there are greater chances of you delivering flops than hits.
Life is an experimentu00a0
It would be a fatal mistake to think that I am just a director. I am Vikram Bhatt, who is also a director. The day I start defining myself as a director, I will let others define me and the work I do. I believe that I am born to explore and experiment with different things in life.
I have been a writer, producer, director, and I also want to act! The drawback of the industry is that we get so attached to our positions, that we forget our true identity.
