The guy was an escape artist of sorts. They couldn't keep him locked up long, even if they did manage to catch him. But catch him they did. Like all criminals, he had a sob story. But this was no ordinary criminal...
What's hot: Depp is pure gold as the devil-may- care/in-your-face Dillinger and leaves you rooting for him even in the weakest of scenes. The use of DV gives you a feeling of actually being there. Something that works to the film's advantage. Note to self: Must pick up the film's OST.
What's not: The trouble is, Mann doesn't really know what he wants this film to be a tribute, a docudrama or a mirror to the times. Also, Bale has little to do, except point and shoot and mumble in that gruff Batman voice.u00a0
What's that! Pretty Boy Floyd (played here by Tatum Channing), a dying crook shot while in pursuit, goes 'Dude! You shot me!' Uh, what were you expecting?
What to do? Warts and all, it's still a power-packed film.
