A year back, the production house had decided to make the epic film with Satish Kaushik as director and, if rumours were to be believed, Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role. However, with all parties seeing a string of flops u2013 Karzzz for Satish, Drona and Delhi 6 for Abhishek, Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi for Rajshri Productions u2013 there was no further news of the film and it was believed that Tansen had been shelved. However, Satish Kaushik recently announced that pre-production work on Tansen is going strong and there are no plans to shelve it. Raj and Sooraj Barjatyas are working with scriptwriter Irshad Kamil to ensure the big budget film matches audience's expectations. However, the male lead is yet to be decided.
Satish Kaushik confirmed that none of the cast members had been signed for the film yet. So it is not yet certain whether Abhishek will play Tansen or not.
