Rani Mukerji, who is back to work, says she is confident her daughter Adira will teach her 'much more about motherhood'
Rani Mukerji has been quite busy of late. She finished shooting for her next film, Hichki, but then grew busy with Durga Puja celebrations. After that, she shot for a special appearance in Aanand L Rai's next, alongside Shah Rukh Khan. And lastly, the actor flew to Mauritius, where she was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award by the country's government as part of its 50th Independence Day celebrations.

A new role
Rani did almost all of that with her daughter Adira, who turns two in December, by her side. And of course, it goes without saying that she is enjoying her new role — albeit in real life — of being a mother. "As they say, 'When you become a mother, your child gives birth to you as a mother'. I am learning every day as a mother and I am sure my daughter will teach me much more about motherhood. Also, it all depends on her," Rani says, laughing.
Work culture
The actor, who will soon be back on the big screen, feels that it's great for mothers to go out and work, as it lets their children see them as independent people. "Your child should know you as an independent mother and respect you not just for being a mother who looks after them, but also for being independent enough to go out there in the world and work," she says.
Fulltime mother
Rani strongly believes that children start respecting work in a strange way when they see their mother and father working. "They will understand that work is important, as they are always like, 'My parents go out to make a living and come home to spend time with me'," she says.
The Mardaani (2014) actor, who is married to film-maker Aditya Chopra, feels that "it is a very positive way of raising a child". She says, "I love being a full-time mother, which I have enjoyed in the last two years. But I think it is time for me to get back to work (smiles)."
'You don't know what the future holds'
Without divulging much about her upcoming film, Hichki, which will release next year, the actor says, "There are certain things in the world that thankfully come to our notice because films show them. It is because of films that they come into the larger picture," she says.
Rani, who has played strong characters in films such as No One Killed Jessica (2011), Talaash (2012) and Mardaani in the past, feels that "people get more sensitive about issues when they get relevance". "Sometimes, that works really well. So that will really make a difference when Hichki comes out. Everyone will know what I am talking about once we start the promotions," she says.
Ask the actor if she is ready to sign more films, especially with Adira by her side, and she says, "If this film does well, it will give me the confidence to do more films, so it all depends what happens next (smiles). It's always a mystery, because you don't know what the future holds for you," says Rani.
