2010 couldn't have been better for singer Shriram Iyer. After desperately trying to make a mark in Bollywood, he's finally struck gold towards the end of the year with hits like Dilli and Aali Re from an upcoming film.

And as the New Year dawns, he hopes that it'll bring with it many more chartbusters and fulfil his dream of collaborating with Zakir Hussain. The singer who has sung for films like Udaan and Iqbal talks to CS about all that he wants 2011 to be.

Do you year me?
For me, this year couldn't have been bigger. I got a chance to perform at the CWG, and do many lives shows. And this year taught me many valuable lessons too.

The first being patience. I hope that 2011 is even better. I want my Bollywood career to take off, and I hope that I can form a band with other musicians. Previously I was in a band called Om with Amit Trivedi, but then we split.

It's very unfortunate that there is no scope for bands in India. No one wants to pay money to attend a concert. People don't mind spending 500 bucks on pav bhaji, but they won't shell out that much on a concert.

The day I see five lakh people assembled together to watch a paid concert, I'll think that we've arrived as a nation. Maybe A R Rahman is one singer who can garner large crowds, but not the rest of us. And ironically, we don't mind paying big bucks to watch a Bryan Adams live in concert.

Band bajao
The reason that bands were relatively popular in the 90s is because cassettes and CDs were in demand. Now music is easily downloadable for free, so listeners don't want to lighten their wallets. Even people who speak anti-piracy are busy downloading music in their living rooms.

Paying the artistu00a0' 3 or 5 for every song that's downloaded is not going to cause much of a dent to your savings. I hope to see the issue of piracy being tackled in the year to come. I also hope that Bollywood music ceases to be the guru and listeners open up to other forms of music too.
