She might only be a few songs old, but she's already struck the right note in Bollywood. With hits like Mar Jawa (Fashion) and Payaliya (Dev D), singer Shruti Pathak has managed to get her voice heard, literally. And she's got many exciting projects in her kitty. CS chats with her on her career moves:

A different tune
I enjoy experimenting with my music. As of now, I am recording a song for Anjaana Anjaani. It is an Indian love song, while the song that I've sung for Admissions Open has a strong element of funk music.

Yeh hai youngistanu00a0
It was very difficult for a young singer to get into playback a few years ago. But today the scene is very diferent. You have so many young talented singers in the industry now and the competition is really high. But it's nice to see composers experimenting with newer voices. I feel that I am lucky to have got good songs early in my career.

Mar jawa magic
Before I sang Mar Jawa, I had no idea that I could sing that sort of a number. That tone of my voice was discovered by Salim-Sulaiman.
My playlist would usually have Sufi, Indian classical and Bollywood numbers. I love listening to Sonu Nigam, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle. Other than these legends, I like the powerful voices of Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan. When it comes to romantic numbers, Shreya Ghosal is unbeatable.u00a0

Class apart
I have trained in classical music under Pandit Divyang Thakur in Ahmedabad. Once I came to Mumbai, I trained under Pandit Ajay Pohankar, who is a famous classical vocalist. My current teacher is Sunil Borgaonkar. I have been really lucky to have good teachers throughout.
