Sonu Sood began the New Year on a helping hand note. He has set up the Prof Saroj Sood Memorial Trust in memory of his mother to aid needy students.

The Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi actor has taken time off from his shoots and is presently in his hometown Moga in Punjab.

Today, he will felicitate some students who despite the odds, want to be achievers. He has planned a special event which will be attended by local bigwigs.

Though the actor is starting off with providing aid to needy students in Punjab, he wants to broaden the work of the trust to include pupils from all over the country.

"I am looking at things beyond just providing books and uniforms. We are also helping students by providing them an infrastructure conducive to studying like lights, benches and proper roads especially in the rural areas," adds Sonu who feels this is the way he can pay tribute to his mother.

"Being an educationist, she was keen that her children, too, were well educated," he points out. Sonu has done mechanical engineering while his US-based sister is a scientist and another sister is pursuing an MBA. "What better way to help than in the field of education," asks Sonu who will also be seen in the Salman Khan starrer Dabanng.
