Sanjeev Nanda, the son of a Delhi-based businessman, was accused of mowing down six people (including three policemen) with his BMW car in Lodhi Colony on January 10, 1999. Police claimed that Sanjeev was drunk when he was driving the car from Gurgaon. His car was cleaned up at his friend's house. Sanjeev was acquitted during the first trial, but when the case was reopened due to public pressure, a trial court found him guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced him to 5 years' imprisonment in 2008. In 2009, the Delhi High Court claimed Sanjeev's crime was one of negligence and not culpable homicide, and reduced the jail term to 2 years
