Here's one actress who believes in calling a flop, a flop. Actress Raima Sen is refreshingly frank and doesn't often give you the cliched celeb answers. Like her, her career too has been rather interesting and unconventional. She might not have played many leads, but she's still taken seriously as an actor. And though she might not have created waves in B-town last year, she's had her hands full with Mirch, Japanese Wife, a Bengali film by Rituparno Ghosh and the soon-to-release Teen Patti. She talks to CS about her work so far and her simple-girl image:

WHO: Raima Sen
WHAT: On being the girl-next-door in Bollywood
WHERE: At a production studio in Bandra

Teen good
Acting in Teen Patti was the greatest experience ever. I had seen Leena Yadav's Shabd and felt that working with her would be a lot of fun. And it was. In the film, I play Madhavan's fiancu00e9e who is sweet, simple and grounded. Like some of the other roles that I've played, she's another girl-next-door. I think I end up playing these nice, simple, non-glam characters because that's how I am perceived. Earlier, I tried changing my image so that I wouldn't be typecast in Bollywood. But now I've come to terms with the fact that people like to see me in such roles. I'm content with myself now.

Sister act
My sister Riya ends up playing all the glamourous roles. That's mainly because she made her Bollywood debut with Style. But her image might change very soon when people see her playing a village girl in Rituparno Ghosh's Nauka Dubi. This is going to be our first film together. But though her selection of films might be very different from mine, we are very similar as people. We have the same friends and are very close to each other. Having said that, we don't interfere in each other's movie selection. If she's had a bad experience with a certain director, she'll warn me in advance. But whether I take up the project or not, will be my decision entirely.

Leading on
It's not like I haven't played any lead roles, it's just that they've not been memorable ones. C Kkompany and Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye saw me playing the protagonist, but somehow those characters didn't click with the audiences. Even now, I do keep getting offers to play the lead, but most of them are uninteresting. I can't say that I'm looking to play a dream character, anything that gets me excited is good enough for me.
