He said, "You guys must be surprised, should I reveal? I should reveal it in a very nice way. Can we have the camera there? I was trying to recognise this person, then remembered I had sung for her. Ladies and gentlemen Mahira Khan is sitting right in front of me. Think about I was singing her song Zaalima and it’s her song and she was singing and standing and I couldn’t recognise her. I am so sorry. Ma'am gratitude and thank you so much.” Mahira, dressed in black, smiled at the kind gesture and waved to the audience. Zaalima was a romantic song featured in the movie Raees, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira. The romantic track also featured vocals by Harshdeep Kaur. About Arijit Singh Arijit began his musical career with the reality show 'Fame Gurukul' back in 2005 when he was 18 years old. He didn't win the show but ended up in sixth position. But during this reality show stint, Arijit's voice caught the attention of the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali who offered to collaborate with him. He kept his promise and gave Arijit a chance to sing 'Yoon Shabnami' in 'Saawariya' but his version never made it to the film.  Finally, in 2011, he made his debut as a Bollywood playback singer with 'Murder 2' song 'Phir Mohabbat' starring Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez. Composed by Mithoon, and sung by Arijit, the love anthem of 'Aashiqui 2' gave rise to the birth of the star Arijit. In 2019, the singer saw a high point in his career, when he took home the National Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the 'Padmaavat' song 'Binte Dil'.

Karan Johar explains why he stays away from the ‘N’ word aka 'Nepotism'

Filmmaker Karan Johar has once again addressed the topic of nepotism, but this time he said that he stays "away from the 'N' word" on his social media. Karan shared a video on Instagram featuring Zarna Garg, an Indian-American stand-up comedian, who is currently in India for her show titled 'Practical People Win'. In the clip, Karan and Zarna, whose work is heavily based on her real-life experience as an Indian immigrant mom in America, discuss how Indian children used to aspire to become doctors and accountants in the past. Describing Karan as her "nemesis", Zarna said that because of the filmmaker, children aspire to become actors. She then goes on to say: “Nepotism was great.” When Zarna prompts Karan for a response, he appears momentarily speechless before expressing his affection with "I love you" and a hug. Zarna hilariously then tells him: "First of all, you obviously don’t know my work, because we don't use the 'L' word around here," which leaves Karan in splits. For the caption, Karan wrote: “Aunty Z giving us her TOTD (Thought of the day)! I am rarely speechless, but I thought on this topic I should maintain an undignified silence!” “She doesn’t use the L word, and I stay away from the 'N' word! We are a match made in digital heaven,” he added. The topic of "nepotism" gained widespread attention in 2017 after actress Kangana Ranaut referred to Karan as the “flag-bearer of nepotism” on 'Koffee With Karan'. Taapsee Pannu reveals details about bridal look; take a look!

Taapsee Pannu tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend, badminton player Mathias Boe, in Udaipur in March. In a recent interview with HT City, she shared insights into her wedding, explaining why she chose a traditional salwaar kameez and juttis instead of a lehenga like many other celebrity brides. Taapsee revealed that her bridal outfits were actually designed by a close friend of hers. About Taapsee Pannu's bridal look Taapsee Pannu revealed, “I’ve grown up seeing Sikh, Gurudwara weddings, so for me, the vintage idea, the classic idea of getting married was always in a proper red salwar kameez paired with a dupatta with kinari on the border. That’s the only way I know a bride looks like a bride, and it didn’t feel real wedding vibe to me to imagine myself dressing up in pastel hued lehengas." “Also because when you have some big name on board, then the chances of the news getting leaked out are very high, and I wanted to keep it very private. So, my college friend, Mani Bhatia designed all my outfits, and that’s how I wanted. I didn’t have any lehenga in my entire wedding because I wanted to dance a lot on all functions." She added. Taapsee also shared details about her outfits for other wedding events. She mentioned wearing a vintage Punjabi-style lungi paired with a kurta for the haldi ceremony, reminiscent of the style seen in "DDLJ" (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge). During the sangeet ceremony, Taapsee chose bellbottom-style pants paired with a top and jacket embellished with bling. Her only accessories were diamond solitaires. For the wedding, she adorned a traditional Punjabi saggi phull in her hair, along with a delicate necklace and earrings passed down from her grandmother to her mother on her wedding day. Taapsee’s work front Taapsee was last seen in 'Dunki' alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar, Boman Irani, and Anil Grover. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film explores the 'Donkey Flight,' a risky and illegal method used by people to enter nations such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Canada. She will next be seen in  'Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba' which also stars Vikrant Massey, Sunny Kaushal, and Jimmy Sheirgill. Written by Kanika Dhillon, it is a sequel to 'Haseen Dilruba', which premiered exclusively on the OTT platform Netflix in July 2021 and gathered positive reviews from the audience and starred Vikrant, Taapsee Pannu, and actor Harshvardhan Rane in the lead roles. Taapsee also has 'Khel Khel Mein' with Akshay Kumar and Vaani Kapoor. The film is directed by Mudassar Aziz and also stars Aditya Seal, Ammy Virk. However, an official announcement regarding the film's details is awaited.

Irrfan Khan

Here are 11 lesser-known facts about the late Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan Death Anniversary 2024: He was one of the most acclaimed and sought-after actors in the Indian film industry who left a stellar mark with his powerful performances even in Hollywood. Best known for films like 'Maqbool', 'Paan Singh Tomar', 'The Lunchbox', 'Piku' among several others, Irrfan was a gem of an actor who used to keep the audiences hooked to the silver screen with his superlative acting skills. While the legendary star, Irrfan, is no longer with us, let's take a look at 11 lesser-known facts about him as we remember the 'King of Acting' on his death anniversary.  Fact 1 We all know that the late Irrfan Khan has been an actor beyond compare and will always be considered as a testimony to superlative acting skills. But, did you know that, more than acting, Irrfan Khan always had dreamt of becoming a cricketer, as per reports. Fact 2 Bollywood actors changing their original names to adopt a screen name is pretty common. Irrfan Khan’s full name is Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan, which he had shortened it to ‘Irrfan Khan’. Fact 3 While we all know that Irrfan Khan belonged to Bollywood and vice versa, did you know that Irrfan Khan’s native is a village named Tonk in Jaipur. Fact 4 Films like Mira Nair’s 'Salaam Bombay' and others made Irrfan Khan one of the fine-crafted pillars of Bollywood. Speaking of 'Salaam Bombay', did you know that, while he was offered the role in the film ‘Salaam Bombay', he was studying in his third year at NSD (National School of Drama). Not the one to say no to challenging roles, Irrfan Khan agreed to do the role. The rest, as they say, is ‘his-story’. There is also one more interesting trivia about the film. It's being said that, even though Mira Nair had signed him for the role in the film, his role was eventually cut short because of his tall height! The irony of the situation is that, despite all this, Irrfan Khan ‘stood tall’ in the film!   Fact 5 We all know about the extremely prestigious TFCA (Toronto Film Critics Association Award). What many may not know is that, the late Irrfan Khan’s widely acclaimed film 'Lunch Box' is the only Indian movie till date to have got a TFCA award! Fact 6 Who will ever say no to a Christopher Nolan film... not even in the wildest of dreams! Well, if the reports are to be believed, then, Irrfan Khan had turned down a film that was offered to him by Nolan! And the reason for the refusal will make you fall in love with Irrfan Khan over and over again. Its being said that, even though he was keen to do the Hollywood sci-fi film ‘Interstellar’, he had to turn it down because of his prior commitment to ‘The Lunchbox’ and ‘D-Day’ and that him saying yes to the film would have wanted him to stay in foreign land for four months! Doesn’t that make you go ‘awwwww’ about Irrfan Khan! Fact 7 You will be surprised to know that Irrfan Khan had landed in Mumbai after having done the training of air conditioning. And his job as an AC technician also got him to visit the house of the superstar (late) Rajesh Khanna to get his air conditioner repaired. Fact 8 Not many know that the Hollywood actress Natalie Portman and Irrfan Khan had once been casted together in Mira Nair’s film ‘Kosher Vegetarian’. The film was about a love story between a Gujarati man and a Jewish girl. Fact 9 Even though he did not ‘look’ that tall, the fact is that, the height of Irrfan Khan was 6 feet 1 inch! Fact 10 During an Oscar awards ceremony, Hollywood’s much-acclaimed actress Julia Roberts had once come up to him and complimented him for his acting in ‘The Namesake’. Fact 11 Did you know that the late Irrfan Khan’s father ran a tyre business?

International Dance Day 2024: Legendary choreographers of Bollywood

Every year, April 29 is celebrated as International Dance Day. It marks the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), creator of modern ballet. This day aims to celebrate dance, revel in the universality of this art form across all political, cultural, and ethnic barriers, and bring people together with a common language - dance. Some call it artistic expression while others view it as a stress-buster. 'Dance' can be defined as body movements in sync and a celebration of physicality.  Bollywood, which is the epitome of larger-than-life performances has used dance as a means of storytelling. While actors execute iconic numbers breathing life into still, it is the choreographers who have worked hard behind the scenes to make it happen. Here’s a list of some legendary dance masters who have and continue to rule showbiz.  Saroj Khan  Saroj Khan joined the industry at the age of three. She became a dancer when she was 10 years old and by 12, she was an assistant choreographer. In her career spanning five decades, Saroj Khan choreographed around 3500 songs. Some of her evergreen tracks are 'Ek Do Teen', 'Choli Ke Peechey Kya Hai', 'Hawa Hawai', 'Dhak Dhak Karne Laga', among others. Her last work was with her frequent collaborator and actor Madhuri Dixit in the multi-starrer 'Kalank'. From choreography, he ventured into direction and made his debut with the comedy film 'F.A.L.T.U'. He then got his skill sets as a dance master to the forefront and directed the film ABCD: Any Body Can Dance which featured Prabhu Deva. This was followed by ABCD 2 with Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, and 'Street Dancer 3D'. He also directed 'Race 3' starring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah, Saqib Saleem and Freddy Daruwala.            View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Disney+ Hotstar (@disneyplushotstar) Vaibhavi Merchant Vaibhavi Merchant, who is known for her energetic choreography started her career solo by setting the dance for 'Dhol Baaje' for the film 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' which won her a National Film Award. Vikrant is a very good friend of mine, so I'm so happy that he has a beautiful wife and a lovely baby now, Vardaan.” Trupti further gave her best wishes to Taapsee and said, “For Taapsee, I would say, ‘Behen, bohot bohot badhaiyan’.
