Aamir Khan has been honoured with the first-ever RK Laxman Award for Excellence, marking yet another milestone in the superstar’s illustrious career. The grand ceremony took place at the MCA Cricket Stadium, where music, art, and heritage converged in a memorable celebration. Aamir Khan received the award from actor Boman Irani, with the makers sharing glimpses from the evening, writing, “Honoring a legend in the most unforgettable way… Aamir Khan received the first R.K. Laxman Award for Excellence from Boman Irani, as thousands witnessed this special moment.”

The event also featured a special live concert by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, adding to the tribute for R.K. Laxman—creator of the iconic “Common Man,” one of India’s most beloved cultural symbols. Throughout his lifetime, Laxman was honoured with several accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Vibhushan, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Mysore.

Aamir Khan, celebrated for films like 3 Idiots, PK, Taare Zameen Par, Dangal, and Sitaare Zameen Par, has consistently brought stories that resonate with the everyday Indian. Much like Laxman’s “Common Man,” Aamir’s cinematic characters have long mirrored societal realities, inspiring audiences while championing themes of progress and nation-building.

Aamir Khan's most recent film role was in RS Prasanna's Sitaare Zameen Par. It was a spiritual sequel to his 2007 picture, Taare Zameen Par. Genelia Deshmukh played the female lead in the film marking her comeback to Hindi cinema.

Khan also made a cameo appearance in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Tamil movie Coolie. It also features Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, and Rachita Ram.

He is currently working on Lahore 1947 as a producer. The film stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in the lead.
