Anurag rubbishes reports of his film based on Maximum City being on hold

Mumbai on its feet

Anurag Kashyap

While Anurag Kashyap had reportedly shared in February that streaming platform Netflix was no longer interested in his adaptation of the non-fiction book, Maximum City, it appears the two parties may eventually come to a consensus.

Kashyap’s adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize finalist book was expected to chronicle life in Mumbai through diverse perspectives, however, rumours had suggested that it was subsequently put on hold. “The script is ready, and we have submitted it to Netflix,” says Kashyap, adding, “But, they have yet to revert to us. The project is in development.”

Because the streaming landscape has evolved since this project was announced, it was speculated that the OTT giant was indecisive about taking it forward. But, Kashyap confirms that the delay is not unusual.
