Singer Neha Kakkar has once again been the subject of social media controversy following the release of her latest single Candy Shop. While the song was intended to be a pleasant, high-energy number, it has sparked criticism online.
Many social media users have cruelly trolled the artist for what they call "vulgar" songs, "cringe" dance, and a failed attempt to emulate Korean pop aesthetics.

Shortly after the song's release, excerpts from the music video went viral, sparking a surge of unfavourable reactions. Several social media users criticised the dancing routines, calling them forced and indecent, while others lambasted the lyrics. A few viewers also accused Neha of trying too hard to replicate K-pop styling and themes without achieving the delicacy that marks the genre.
A user commented: "When you start getting irrelevant, you resort to forced hooks, cringe lyrics, and shock-value performances." A different review stated: "The styling and vibe feel like a poor attempt at K-pop aesthetics -cute and bold on paper, but executed embarrassingly and vulgar." Similar reactions swamped the comment sections, with many doubting the song's creative direction. The lyrics for Candy Shop were written by Neha's brother, Tony Kakkar. He also produced the tune.

A lot of netizens called out the singer for promoting vulgarity onscreen and sending out the wrong message to the youth, a user wrote, "When your daughter has the potential to become another Sushma Swaraj ji, Nirmala Sitaraman ji, Avani Chaturvedi, Mithali Raj, Saina Nehwal, Hima Das, Usha Kiran and many more like them... Don't "Allow", "Motivate", "Encourage", "Demand", "Support" her to become like Neha Kakkar." Another one added, "Sony TV should be answerable as to why Neha Kakkar was imposed as a judge for Indian Idol for so many years!! You're showcasing young, innocent talents on your channel, and any reality show judge is supposed to be the role model for them! Neha Kakkar and her absolutely derogatory, cheap antiques are deplorable!"
This is not the first time Neha has received criticism for her musical selections. Despite being one of the most successful playback singers in the country, with several chartbusters to her name, the singer has frequently been the target of internet abuse, particularly for songs considered as overly commercial or monotonous.
As of now, Neha Kakkar has not replied to the controversy over Candy Shop. Meanwhile, the song remains popular online, with supporters supporting her experimental approach and opponents doubling down on their disdain.
