In October, when Akshay Kumar announced his next, Gorkha, one wondered if it was the same film that John Abraham and Nikkhil Advani had been working on for the past year. While Kumar’s film is reportedly based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a reputed officer of the Gorkha regiment of the Indian Army, little is known about Abraham’s action thriller. All the makers have divulged so far is that it is designed as a tribute to the Gorkha regiment. Abraham sets the record straight, stating that their script is currently being drafted. “Our story is completely different. We will call it something else now; it was tentatively titled Gorkha,” says the leading man, unperturbed by the clash of titles.

Abraham indicates that the team of the Aanand L Rai production beat them to acquiring the name. “One needs to register the title. This has happened to me in the past when I have lost the title despite being on the waiting list. In this case, Aanand L Rai justifiably has the title and is going forward with his film. We had no right to it.” For the actor-producer, it’s a happy coincidence that the name will be used for his dear friend’s project. “I am happy that the movie is being made with my favourite person, Akshay Kumar.”
