Veteran actor and producer Dheerja Kumar has passed away at the age of 80 in Mumbai. Known for his work in television and films, he had been admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and was in a critical state. Now Kumar’s family confirmed that the actor-producer passed away on Tuesday Morning.

Dheeraj Kumar passes away


Dheeraj Kumar, whose real name was Dheeraj Kocchar, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after complaining of severe breathing issues. He was being treated for acute pneumonia. His condition was critical for the past couple of days, and he was put on ventilator support in the ICU. The team of doctors at the hospital were closely monitoring his health, and all necessary medical care was being provided. The family had requested prayers for his speedy recovery.



Now, his family confirmed that he veteran actor, breathed his last at 11.30 am on Tuesday morning. He is survived by his wife, Zuby Kocchar and son. Despite being in the showbiz for years, he often kept his life private and stayed away from the spotlight. The cremation is likely to take place on Wednesday, since his relatives from Punjab are expected to arrive.

Dheeraj Kumar career

Dheeraj started his career in the entertainment industry in 1965. He was one of the finalists of a talent show alongside Subhash Ghai and Rajesh Khanna, who eventually won the show. This launched his acting career as he simultaneously acted as a model in advertisements, including those for Vicks Action 500.

He has acted in 21 Punjabi films between 1970 to 1984. He made his Bollywood debut in the 1970 film Raaton Ka Raja. Later, he started a production company named Creative Eye and served as its chairman and managing director. Notably, the song Ka Karoon Sajani, Aaye Na Balam from the 1977 film Swami was picturised on him. He also worked in other films like Heera Panna, Shreeman Shrimati, among others.

He also reportedly directed the TV show Om Namah Shivay, which aired between 1997 to 2001 on DD National and was based on the Shiva Purana. Dheeraj had recently attended the inaugural ceremony of ISKCON temple in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, wherein he had praised PM Modi's efforts in supporting the spread of Sanatan Dharma.
